Aptly called the Pink City, Jaipur has an air of royalty to it. Believed to be one of the first planned cities in the world, Jaipur holds its regal charm in its splendid palaces, forts and temples. The City Palace being the most imposing and striking structure, houses several palaces and the City Palace Museum. The Jal Mahal on an island in the Man Sarovar Lake is one of the most beautiful structures in Jaipur. The Jaigarh Fort is amazing too with the world’s largest cannon on wheels. Hawa Mahal is a major landmark in Jaipur and needs no introduction. It is distinctive with extensive lacework of red and pink sandstone and has innumerable small windows which renders it the name Hawa Mahal. The Jantar Mantar in Jaipur houses the largest sundial in the world. Some interesting artifacts are collected in the Albert Hall Museum. Jaipur is however not just about antiquity, it has an equally happening modern life too. The modern malls and happening shopping places that are present here bear testimony to this modernity. |
