Home to a large number of forts, temples, synagogues and churches, Alibaug has a lot more to offer you than beaches and greenery. Alibaug is a well-known getaway for people who need to escape the city-life. Driving to Alibaug as you enjoy the scenic beauties of the region is possibly the best way to reach this picturesque hamlet. Plan your getaway this monsoon and watch the splendors of nature unfold before you. Of course, if you head out in the rains, carry sturdy rain gear – raincoat, umbrellas and extra clothing!

Things to see & do
  • Alibaug Beach: This is the prime beach of the town and the highlight of Alibaug. What’s immensely striking about the beach is its long stretch of black sand and the panoramic view that it provides of the magnificent Kolaba Fort. You can take a horse-cart ride on the beach or even upto the fort.

  • Kolaba Fort: Built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1652, this fort is situated just a furlong away from the shore. Its most spectacular feature is the freshwater well inside. The huge front entrance arch has tigers, peacocks and elephants sculpted on it. With two gates, one at the shore side and the other at the seaside, you can visit the fort either by walking across the seashore or taking a buggy ride. Do keep a check on the tide, though, before venturing out.

  • Chaul: This historic town is located just 15 kms from Alibaug and is home to several architectural wonders, including Portuguese ruins, Buddhist Caves, temples and even a synagogue.

  • Vikram Vinayak Temple: Situated across the Revdanda Bridge, this small but beautiful temple is perched atop a hillock. Its stunning gardens and colourful fountains let you experience a captivating mix of architecture and beauty. Monsoons make the garden even lovelier and a delight.

  • Kanakeshwar Temple: Resting on a hill and accessible by 700 odd steps, this attractive temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Built in 1764, this temple is a delight with its extensively decorated colourful miniature idols of the gods. En route the temple, several sights and signs greet you, including the Nagobacha Tappa , which essentially is a warning for snakes that lurk around here. Halfway up visit the Nandi bull and the Brahma Kund tank.

  • Mandwa and Kihim: The twin beaches of Mandwa and Kihim lie to the north of Alibaug and are easily accessible. Long stretches of un-spoiled white sandy beaches make it an amazing weekend getaway. Close to Kihim, you can head out to get a view of the stunning tower of St. Barbara. The monsoons make the region even more appealing as its surrounding gets greener and lovelier. As the greenery gets denser you have more and more birds around and make the place a heaven foe the avian-watcher.

  • Akshi and Nagaon: A perfect spot for birdwatchers, just 3 km from Alibaug, Akshi is a quiet beach. With its numerous trees getting even greener during the fall, the coast is an ideal place to unwind. The Nagaon Beach is home to a small fishing village and is characterized by the unmistakable smell of fishes! You can also hire a boat to visit the twin locations of Khanderi and Undheri forts. However, avoid setting out to the sea during the rains.

  • Vrindavan Farm: SSpread over 28 acres, this farm houses over 70,000 plants on sale, which include several exotic varieties of crotons and cacti and the more common species of mangoes and guavas. Also located within the farm is Tiny Wings, which is an arts and crafts gallery that has on display bidriware, patta chitras and other items from Bastar Tribe.
