Monsoon Ideas
Chiplun is a rather calm and serene town on the Mumbai-Goa highway and is an ideal place to simply sit back and relax amidst nature. Chiplun, which is also the abode of Lord Parshuram, is made of lush greenery, the meandering Vashishti River and spectacular natural vistas. As the rains arrive, the landscape gets adorned by an appealing shade of green while the Vashishthi swells and turns even more attractive. Since the area receives heavy rainfall, be prepared with adequate monsoon gear. Pack in some extra change of clothes, umbrellas and monsoon footwear.

Things to see & do
  • Parshuram Temple: An ancient temple, the Parshuram Temple is dedicated to an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It contains three idols of the deity and the complex has a stone wall all around that can be accessed by steps.

  • Vashisiti River: This is the major attraction of the town. The best entertainment options are available here and include a session of motor boating and picnics.

  • Sawatsada Waterfall: This is a milky white waterfall which can be visited only during monsoons. As the water gushes and flows, the fall provides the most photogenic of views. This roaring and gushing fall is ideal for picnicking.

  • Gowalkot Fort: A testimony to the great Maratha heritage, the fort was built by Shivaji. It is located on top of a hill opposite the River Vashishthi and provides a superb view of the entire town. The fort is also a paradise for trekking lovers and has quite a few trekking routes.

  • Karanjeshwari Temple: Located on the banks of River Vashishthi, the temple is dedicated to the patron deity of the Konkanis, Goddess Karanjeshwari.

Gourmet Treats
Don’t miss out on the delicious Malvani cuisine that the region offers. Most cafés serve Malvani thalis. However, the best option would the Riverview Restaurant at the Quality Resort. The restaurant offers a multi-cuisine menu along with great views of the region. Delicious sea food and soups can be tried at the Royal Palace. Another interesting eating-out experience can be had near the Parshuram Temple, which serves lunch and dinner daily. The nachni papad available at Pethe Vishranti Graha is another local delicacy which must be tried. The region’s special Sol Kadi, a kokum drink, seasoned with coconut milk is a hot favorite. It’s easily available and should not be missed at all.

Shopping Fiesta
Chiplun is a good place to shop for nice and fresh fruits, spices and other foodstuffs. Most of the shops are concentrated around the Pethe Parshuram Temple. Kokum drinks and Alphonso mangoes are also popular buys. Delicious aam papad and mango pulp are sold by various shops. Quite a range of pickles and amla preparations are also available. A specialty of Chiplun is the Bat oil which is said to be an effective joint pain-killer.
