Monsoon Ideas
Dapoli, a small hill-station in the Ratnagiri district is referred to as “Mini Mahabaleshwar” because of its cool climate. 700-800 feet above the sea level, the place has a cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. Home to some exotic beaches and lovely hills, Dapoli has abundant natural beauty. Its long stretch of coastline renders it some of the most beautiful beachfronts, complete with clean golden sands and clear waters. While Dapoli can be visited all year through, monsoons make this region even more appealing. Rains bring out the best in nature as the hills turn lush green and numerous waterfalls find their way through the hills to cascade down. As the jungles grow dense the place turns into a hotspot for those who love trekking. Exploring the nearby ancient temples, forts, caves and hot springs is definitely an adventurous exercise. Carry sturdy footwear and adequate rainwear if you travel during the showers. Be careful when trekking through the hills as the water might make the land slippery.

Things to see & do
  • Suvarnadurg Fort & Kanakdurg Fort: Located 17 kms from Dapoli at Harne, are two forts, Kanakdurg, the land fort and Suvarnadurga, the sea fort. Arrange with a local fisherman to row you across to these forts. Also head out to see the lighthouse inside Kanakdurga.

  • Unhavare - (Hot Water Springs): These natural hot springs are located in Unhavare Village, 20 km from Dapoli. Believed to have miraculous powers, a dip here is believed to cure your skin ailments.

  • Keshavraj and Vyaghreshwar: The Temples of Keshavraj and Vyaghreshwar located at Asud near Dapoli are also magnificent sightseeing options. Situated on a hill near the village, one has to walk through wooded land to reach the temple. You can also find some of the most beautiful variety of flora and fauna with wild cacti, beautiful butterflies, and dense plantations of coconut and beetle nut trees.
