Monsoon Ideas
Unspoiled beaches, stretches of golden sand, crystal clear waters…welcome to Ganapatipule! A sleepy hamlet on the marvelous Konkan coastline, Ganapatipule is a rejuvenating experience. Not just serene, the place is one of the holiest cities in Maharashtra, home to the self-formed idol of Lord Ganapati. The beaches of Ganapatipule are inviting throughout the year, but they turn more appealing during the monsoons. The downpours make the waves turn foamy and the surroundings turn an extremely alluring green. A drive down the Western Ghats during monsoons can be an experience of a lifetime.

Things to see & do
  • Swayambhu Ganapati Temple: The most prominent of all tourist locations in Ganaptipule is the Ganapati temple located on the foot of a hill. The temple houses a 400 year old idol which is believed to have originated on its own. It is this Ganapati idol that lends its name to the place – Ganapatipule.

  • Malgund: Famed as the birthplace of the famous Marathi Poet Keshavsoot, Malgund is popular with tourists who visit the place to see the house of the poet which is now a hostel for students. Keshavsoot Smarak, a memorial has been erected there in memory of this great personality.

  • Pawas: A calm and serene place, Pawas is known for the ashram of Swami Swaroopanand.

  • Fort Jaigad: This legendary fort stands on a cliff and provides an amazing view of the sea.

  • Karhateshwar: An amazing structure carved out of wood, the temple stands on the Konkan coastline. The natural beauty that surrounds the temple is simply superb. Lovely hills cut by shimmering streams, form the backdrop for the temple.

Gourmet Treats
Ganapatipule is famous for its coconut-based food; most preferred being rice and fish curry in coconut base. Non-vegetarian fares are not available around the temple area. Tasty vegetarian meals are served there, which include vegetables done with coconut. Kokam Kadi is a popular local drink. Some of the good restaurants around are the MTDC Restaurant and Tarang. Modak, the Lord’s favourite sweets are a must, when in Ganapatipule.

Shopping Fiesta
Ganapatipule doesn’t have any big malls or shopping centers, but the local markets offer a few items to take home. The best buys include artifacts made of sea shells. Numerous household and decorative items made of sea shells are sold here which make good souvenirs too. Seasonal fruits also make good buys as the region is rich in fruits. Take home some of the freshest and sweetest of fruits. Sweet-based products like ambapoli (thin pancakes of dried and crushed mango) and phanaspoli (thin pancakes of dried and crushed jackfruit) are a favorite too.
