Monsoon Ideas
Cascading waterfalls, grassy slopes, lovely woods and true brilliance of nature aptly make Mussoorie ‘the Queen of Hills’. This hill resort commands spectacular views of the imposing Himalayan Range and the beautiful Doon Valley. Discovered by British army man, the place soon became a favorite amongst the royalty and high officials as a summer getaway. Till today it continues to exude its charm which lures people from all over. While Mussoorie can be visited all year through, as the rains pour, numerous streams fall down the hilly slopes forming lovely rivulets and pretty falls. It would be an experience of a lifetime to walk down the hills viewing these gifts of nature. But, do arm yourself against the rains. Pack your luggage with raincoats, umbrellas and rain shoes, so that rains do not stop you from venturing out.

Things to see & do
  • Lal Tibba: The highest point in Mussoorie, the place literally means ‘on top of the hill’. The spot gives great views of the majestic Himalayas and especially easy to view are the peaks of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Bandar Poonch, Sri Kantha and Nanda Devi.

  • Gun Hill: This is the second highest peak in Mussoorie and can be accessed by a ropeway. A spot frequented by tourists, it offers panoramic views of the Himalayan Range. The hill derives its name from the fact that a gun was positioned there which was fired to symbolize that it was afternoon.

  • Camel's Back Road: Mussoorie has some scenic walks too and the Camel's Back Road forms one such route. It starts from Kulri Bazaar near Rink Hall and ends at Library Bazaar.

  • Kempty Falls: A spot not to miss when in Mussoorie, the Kempty Falls are the largest waterfalls in the town. The fall is extremely picturesque and definitely photogenic as the stream falls from a height but before hitting the ground divides itself into five streams.

  • The Mall: This is the main shopping area in Mussoorie, stretching from Cloud's End in the west to Rockville in the east. The Mall is home to the major hotels, restaurants and shops in the town. Its popular hangouts include a video games parlor and a skating rink.

  • Clouds End: Now a hotel, this was originally the first four bungalows in Mussoorie. The place offers charming views of the snow-capped Himalayas.

  • Happy Valley: This place is basically a Tibetan settlement. But it has many things, which make it worth a visit. It is home to public gardens, the Tibetan School & Home and National Academy of Administration. A small yet pretty monastery is also there.

  • Mussoorie Lake: This Lake is man made and is a pretty picnic spot with lovely gardens around and captivating views of the Doon Valley.

  • Bhatta Falls: A fall near the Bhatta village of Mussoorie, the spot is another famous picnic spot in the area. The fall has many ponds and makes a good place for bathing. The ponds offer water amusements too.

Gourmet Treats
Mussoorie, which is thronged by tourists throughout the year, offers a large number of eating options too. The Nabha Palace Restaurant is an excellent place to enjoy meals in elegance and comfort. Whispering Windows offer multi-cuisine meals, while Four Seasons is a place ideal for families to dine at. Delicious Gujarati dishes can be tried out at Padmini Niwas Hotel. Some other places in Mussoorie, which are suitable for a casual hangout, are the Meeting Point Café and the Casa Mia Bakery. The Chic-Chocolate shop selling homemade chocolates and ice creams should not be missed. They are simply irresistible!

Shopping Fiesta
No high end Malls or big brand showrooms. Yet, Mussoorie is a nice place to shop with quite a few shopping options. The Mall Road is the shopping hot-spot and you can pick up wooden carved items and top quality Ladakhi shawls. The Kulri Bazaar and Landour Bazaar offer good options to pick ethnic jewelry, handicrafts, hand-knit cardigans and cane baskets.
