Monsoon Ideas
Yercaud offers everything that a famous hill resort has - except its crowd and noise. A tranquil hill station, the place is endowed with pristine beauty and serene charm. Known as the land of lakes and forests, Yercaud is home to some crystal clear lakes and dense forests. Lovely parks and enchanting falls dot the entire landscape of Yercaud. Though beautiful throughout the year, Yercaud attains heights in natural beauty during the monsoons. As the rains pour, the lake swell and turn prettier, the falls sparkle and the forests grow deep green. Arm yourself with monsoon wear, umbrellas and rain shoes and head on to Yercaud to enjoy the splendor of nature in its full.

Things to see & do
  • Big Lake or Emerald Lake: Surrounded by appealing gardens and inviting greenery, the lake is a perfect picnic spot. An island in the middle of the lake forms an interesting spot, which can be accessed through a bridge and is home to some peacocks and deer. A boat ride across the lake takes you to the lovely floating fountain.

  • Arthur’s Seat: A point on top of a hill, the Arthur’s Seat gives a panoramic view of the entire town of Yercaud and the Shevaroyan Peak.

  • Kiliyur Waterfall: This fall is best visited during monsoons. Excess water from the Yercaud Lake flows down the hills and falls down almost 300 feet. The sight of the fall is fascinating with its picturesque surroundings.

  • Lady's Seat: This place gives the best view of the charming town of Yercaud. The ghat with its winding roads provides a breathtaking view. A telescope is mounted there which can be used to have a close look of the town lying beneath. The view however is simply amazing after dark, when millions of lights in the town glow.

  • The Servarayan Temple: Situated on top of Servarayan hill, the temple is dedicated to God Servarayan and Goddess Kaveri. God Servarayan is believed to be the guardian of Yercaud.

  • Anna Park: This Park is located near the Big Lake and is a complete hit with children as the Japanese park inside it has a number of slides and rides for children.

  • Pagoda Point: This point is located on the Yercaud Hills and has four piles of stones placed in pagoda-style, thus rendering the place its name. The place also has a temple dedicated to Lord Rama.

Gourmet Treats
As per its location, the main cuisine of Yercaud is South Indian. Most of the popular restaurants are part of the major hotels. Grange Restaurant in the Grange Resort serves delicious vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian cuisines. The restaurant in the Sterling Days Inn Resort is a multi-cuisine restaurant. The restaurant in Hotel Shevaroys serves some mouth watering non-vegetarian delicacies. If you are searching for good north Indian cuisine, head on to Hotel Select, which has a multi-cuisine restaurant serving North Indian fare.

Shopping Fiesta
Though not a shopper’s paradise, Yercaud markets offer some good textiles and bright handloom fabrics. Most tourists pick up fresh spices from the shops here. Cloves and pepper are popular buys and organic garden produce is also sold in abundance along the road uphill from Salem to Yercaud. The best buy however is always the freshly ground coffee which is easily available in Yercaud markets.
