I've just returned from Goa, where I stayed with my parents at the Goa Woodlands Hotel in Margao. We were all quite impressed by this property.
Location: Excellent! Right in the city center, with Margao's commercial hub scattered all around. The city bus stand is a minute's walk away. Also, plenty of small & cheap restaurants & cafes & shopping places very closeby. The nearest beach (Colva) is about 20 minutes' drive away and there are regular public buses leaving from the city bus stand next-door.
Rooms: Very spacious, clean, good quality fittings & furnishing. Comfortable beds. A/C worked well and was not noisy at all, in fact was a bit strong. The room had a very clean & functional bathroom & toilet. The highlight here was the multi-jet shower. We had booked an executive suite (which is normally for only 2 guests) with an extra bed (cost us only Rs. 300 extra). One tip: if possible, ask for a room not facing the main road below, as there are a couple of schools around the hotel and there can be terribly noisy traffic at school opening/closing times.
Housekeeping & room service: Very impressive.
Restaurants in-house: There are 2 restaurants in the ground floor of the hotel - one was vegetarian & the other non-vegetarian. We dined multiple times in both the restaurants and found them both really good with big portions. The staff was also very helpful with suggestions and the quality of food was awesome. On the front side of the hotel, there's also a cute little boulangerie with a great choice of sandwiches, croissants, pastries etc.
Other services: We took help from the reception of the hotel for organizing a private taxi for sightseeing and some other errands and it worked quite well. Of course, taxi drivers etc in Goa are notorious for overcharging and for being customer-unfriendly, and so was the case here, as well. But all in all it wasn't a very unpleasant experience and the hotel's staff certainly did their job well.
So my overall comment is, if you're gonna stay in Margao (in the city and not towards the Colva beach), this hotel is a superb choice.
I had made the booking online through www.travelguru.com and they offered quite a good rate. (In fact as a first-time customer, they offered an extra discount of Rs. 500).

Hotel is really good, its centralised location, but imrpovement in room service requried, more cleanliness expected. Poractiveness in work expected. Break fast too good. Dinner we had taken outside. Hotel .passeges were clean. our Room was cleaned nicely in front of my supervision next day morning. Lot of scope for improvement.
