Room was very small in size and there was nothing for keeping the dresses and garments.Room was suffocating. No fan was there in a air tight room and thus the staying was not so comfortable. The TV was totally in bad condition.we are not properly served by the wauters during dinner on 06.03.13.We are told to wash our hands after dinner going to wash room insted of giving us wash boul that was given on previuos day.We couldn't take our dinner at the hotel restaurant it sel because of there was a party and the restaurant was booked and we had to bear a music and noise in very loud voice and even after locking the door from inside couldn't save us from noise pollution and disturnabce. This type of nuisance doesn't suit with the paece and tranquility of a hill station and the Himalayan range. The room service was not good & promt and we had to wait for a long even for drinking water geeting supplied at room.Anyway, the location of the hotel is good and near to mall road.We couldn't enjoy properly our honeymoon staying at Shimla.

The hotel is very nice,I've alloted the Room No.109, was neat & Clean but not more specious for family and window was facing on a wall.Water Stopper was removed from Bath Tub,for saving the water as per manager told.
Housekeeping is very good.Room service is also very good.
Hot water is available only 7-8 am & 7-8pm only.
The complimentary Breakfast is served very good.

I had booked Hotel Surya in Shimla on X'mas. It was a really pleasant stay there. Hotel is quite clean & neat, staff is good. I reached hotel around 6AM in the morning after night long journey and they were courteous enough to provide me the room despite the busy season although check-in time is 12PM.

The hotel does not look like a three star property, There is no carpet in the room and everytime when you come out from washroom the floor will get wet and look dirty. There is no heater facility available in the chilled and if you ask for it then they will charge seperately for this. No power backup for electricity even not for lift also.
My Experience is average.

PLUSES: (i) VFM; (ii) Location (iii) Room options to suit varied pockets & needs; (iv) Travel services; (v) Quality of room - GIVEN tariff; (vi) 20+ yr. old property, 60 odd rooms and has a short-cut to the popular 'Mall Road'.
MINUSES: (i) Hot water supply not 100% reliable which it needs to be for Shimla's climate; (ii) Inadequacy in etiquette while dealing with guests (they are NOT impolite or rude, but definitely need soft skills training - the "Ps and Qs" matter to anybody & everybody!; (iii) Inadequacy in guest/customer-orientation & sensitivity from the management - often, it is the small things you take care of that make/break an impression; (iv) Breakfast, while ok in spread, can be significantly improved in taste by reducing oil & salt - overtly greasy 'bhaturas' and 'chole' kills many a hungry appetite for e.g.(!), and likewise, serving juice that tastes more like squash may cut costs, but the actual impact on customer retention and brand-build is actually detrimental; (v) Lack of absolute basics like shower-curtains messes up the entire bathroom; (vi)
House-keeping does not replace or provide toilet rolls adequately despite reminders - whereas, a good hotel should not need a single reminder.
OVERALL, Hotel Surya is highly recommended IF, one is looking at financial impact conservation. So if one would like to be budget conscious, this is ONE OF THE BEST that Shimla can offer. If however, you are flexible, you may want to consider other options!
