Vivanta by Taj is located at the most picturesque spot in Srinagar, overlooking the Dal Lake and the Tulip Gardens on one side and the majestic mountains on the other. The breath taking view is further complemented by the beautifully designed room, which is spacious and opens into a large private (kind of) garden and sitting area, which overlooks the Dal lake. The bathroom is also very spacious and well designed. The overall hotel building though doesn't look most impressive and could have done with a choice of another color for the exteriors. They have a heated pool which again overlooks the Dal lake on one side and the mountains on the other. The service is Taj standard and cannot be faulted. The food, however, was not very impressive. We also felt that they could have done with more Kashmiri influence in the interiors, which are very modern and make it look like any star hotel anywhere in the world. With such rich local heritage, we had expected a more 'inspired' look in the interiors. Overall, it's one the best places to stay in Srinagar.

very bad breakfast : no bacon, no hot tomatoes, no good bread, no fish, poor choice of cheese, no potatoes...

While the staff were very courteous, the service at their "Latitude" restaurant left much to be desired ... they were unable to manage the rush well and there food running out at the buffet counter with long gaps to refill the same, glasses were not there for the juices and getting a staff member to give one was a challenge, it took almost all of breakfast to get a cup of coffee ... they need to ramp up their ability to manage rush ... perhaps they need to look at increasing their staff to manage the crowds. The hotel was good otherwise, nice rooms and fantastic views!
