According to a survey done by an online travel portal, majority of Indians seem unaffected by the fall in the Indian rupee, and more than 60% Indians claim that their travel plans are still going strong. The falling rupee has hardly dampened travel plans as 18% said that they wouldn’t wait till the rupee rises and then go on a holiday, while 33% said that they would wait till the rupee stabilises. The remaining 49% said that it doesn’t matter and they would go on a holiday anyway.

A survey done by one of the leading travel portals, Yatra.com, revealed Europe, apart from the South East Asian countries, to be one of the most sought-after destinations for travel by Indians. Sharat Dhall, President of Yatra.com opined, “The rupee weakening has not really had an adverse impact on Indian travellers as most of them are unfazed and continue to make holiday plans. Savvy Indian travellers book well in advance these days and hence are confident about getting good deals within their budget.”

He further added that most travellers are optimistic about the rupee strengthening and that the falling rupee will not spoil their travel plans. One of the most favoured activities that came to the fore through the survey was sightseeing and more than 48% Indians were willing to spend most of their money on it.

So while the rupee may seem to be on a bit of a tumble, it hasn’t adversely affected travel as of now. What are your views on the falling rupee and its effects on the Indian travel and tourism industry?
