Cincinnati’s Abandoned Subway, Ohio

Cincinnati’s Abandoned Subway (Ohio)

This one will surely delight people with one too many adventurous bones in their body. In the early 1900s, there were plans to build a subway system in Cincinnati. Maunsell Sea Forts (North Sea, England)

This place doesn’t seem too strange from its name, does it? But there is a reason why it made it into this list of the strangest places in the world! The Catacombs, Paris

The Catacombs (Paris)

The Parisian Catacombs are a gigantic cemetery and ossuary located beneath the city’s streets. Apparently, there are roughly 6 million bodies put to rest in the catacombs. Is it just us or is it really freaky to know that there’s a whole city of the dead just beneath the glam and romance of Paris?

The Door to Hell, Turkmenistan

The Door to Hell (Turkmenistan)

How bizarre is it to have a huge part of a field blazing in fury the whole time? The Door to Hell was once a gas field until the Soviets set it on fire. Today, that pit of fire has been burning for the past 40 years, and some say it will never stop burning.

Varosha, Cyprus

Varosha (Cyprus)

There is an actual, honest-to-god deserted city in the world! This totally abandoned resort city on the coast of Cyprus was invaded by the Turkish. It was quickly evacuated, never to be occupied again. Varosha now stands testimony to the way of life as it was in 1974.
