There is a saying that "Journey is often beautiful than destination" but this doesn't hold good for Tangaali. The last 6-7 KM drive is the pathetic due to road conditions and will make you feel why did i opt for this place. But, once you reach Tangaali, you will feel.. well it was worth it. Tangaali is situated at a wonderful location and the home keepers are affable and are always at your service. from preparing morning coffee to dinner, they always seek for your preference and try to make you feel comfortable . It is a rare sight that the house keepers are so engaging with the guests in the absence of owners. Deepak and Venkat are the two main guys there and they are always looking to give you a feel that you are staying at your own place. The rooms are basic but are well maintained and hygienic. Balcony rooms are kind of prone to lots of insects but the locals say they are innocuous. There are guests who are interested in taking snaps of those variety of insects as well!!! with regards to the activities, Deepak plays the role of the guide to various view points and does guide you during trekking. The sun set view point is really worth visiting so are other view points. The nearest view point is just 5-10 min away and you can just walk up to the place to feel the mist and cool breeze. post the evening snacks, you can also stroll around the tea gardens near to the home stay. depending on availability, you can also plan a visit to ell-neeru falls. The taste of the water there is as sweet as a tender coconut water and hence the name ell-neru falls. you will certainly not be disappointed when you visit the falls. Locals say the climatic conditions are pleasant across the year but you may experience lots of leeches at the property during monsoon and visibility may be limited due to mist. mobile connectivity is very limited and if you like a forced break from social media, you want to consider this one. you can also spend some time playing badminton, carom or reading a book. The owners do visit the property on a daily basis and make sure they spend some time inquiring about the stay. It was nice to talk to couple of owners of this property. interaction with them was memorable. overall, it was a memorable visit because of the home keepers caring nature and the location of the property. you can plan for a 2 night stay to relax yourselves.

Thangaali, when you get there after an arduous 7km drive from the main road, is a lovely spot to spend some time. The rooms are pretty basic, as is the food, but the service is great. We were welcomed by the owners and spent a great evening around a bonfire. They'd called us in advance to check whether we'd like non-veg food since they normally only serve a vegetarian fare. And all 6 Norwegian tourists we're served a great Malnad chicken curry in addition to the normal menu. In the morning, one of the employes guided us on an hour long walk through the coffee and tea plantations, culminated by a simple south Indian breakfast on our return. We'll definitely return to Thangaali the next time we're in the region.

We visited thangaali on 22nd and 23rd of December and we all had such a great time!! Every aspect of thangaali is beautiful. The view is breathtaking. The staff are friendly and cooperative. The rooms are well maintained, really nice and cozy with great views. For me, the real stand out was the food at this place! They serve simple food that highlight the local cuisine. The owners are also really humble and friendly.. We faced minor hiccups during booking but everything was handled seamlessly by the owners upon our arrival there. If want to experience their local culture while having a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway, thangaali is the place to be.

The worst misguided homestay EVER!!! > The worst misguided homestay EVER!!! > "HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED"

Just a couple of good things to mention: 1. The location is awesome and the view is excellent! 2. There's a Nepalese guy called Deepak, who usually ushers the guests to treks, or other places. He's extremely good at his job. Too many negative things to be meted out, not worth your money: 1. There are about 3-4 locals who run the show, so the owner supervision is minimal. They do visit in the evenings, probably to check out the numbers, but couldn't be bothered about the guests food/rooms so on. The one thing that they diligently market is their "Kashaya" in the evenings, which is good. But then, it is the same kashaya everyday, so nothing to look forward to there. 2. The food is recycled, you could say that because of a neatly preplanned menu with Kadubu being the standard. Agreed, it is a local delicacy, but you need to get the pulse of the people who come here. One local delicacy and another common dish, to meet the people's palate is recommended. They just don't get it :( 3. Evening snacks are served, with bonfire. The most common being, "Goli bajji" and "Vada" - again, repetitive. The basic that could be done is to check with the guests once, before dishing out these snacks. 4. Rooms - The worst part is here, the rooms are hardly maintained, there's dust under the beds behind the doors, which looks like haven't been touched for months together - and you could just stare at the grime in the bathrooms around the corners and mugs/buckets. The bedsheets smell of moisture and humidity. The rooms are a bit dark and they could've better used the nature's views that is right there in front of the rooms .. Really, they can do a lot better!!!! 5. Please DO NOT cheat people with your fancy photos and set unrealistic expectations. You need to be true to what you claim.
