Disappointing in the extreme Disappointing in the extreme

by RochelleK124 on February 26, 2018

We could not match the pictures of this hotel on Trip Advisor and Booking.Com with the reality of the place. The whole hotel needs a serious coat of paint, the linen on the beds has lost any crispness, the overhead fan did not work properly, the water in the shower was cold, there was no wifi, there was no bottled water in the rooms, there are no cupboards - one hanger on the curtain rail does not constitute a cupboard and we therefore lived out of our suitcases, you have to walk through open sewerage to get to the beach - goodness me what can I say that is positive? The staff are friendly and helpful! And the restaurant is reasonably good! The red snapper, king fish, calamari and prawns were well cooked and the restaurant chef and staff go out of their way to accommodate needs. We would not stay there again - sorry!

Good rooms, great staff and wonderful restaurant ! Good rooms, great staff and wonderful restaurant !

We stayed at Spice of Life Mandrem for 5 nights, our last stop on our Indian journey (one month of travelling around) The rooms are very clean (clean walls, nice bathroom) and according to what we expected (because most of the times pictures don't match reality on the booking websites ;-)) Good tasteful furniture and the house has a great location, 30 seconds from the beach, on Mandrem main road (with shops, restaurants and spas). Staff is very helpful and nice. The restaurant has excellent & super fresh seafood !!! We loved trying some shark, king fish, prawns and squid grilled there. The chef and the cooking team really know how to prepare fish perfectly and the prices are also very reasonable for the area and the quality ! Cute square outdoor terrasse with hanging lanterns under the coconut trees. We are definitely recommending having a great meal there !!!

Excellent stay Excellent stay

2 night stay in an air conditioned room. Really comfortable. The food was lovely in the restaurant and the staff were really helpful. Only Criticism is there was no bottled water in the room which is a problem if you arrive after 9.30pm as all shops shut but you can still buy from the restaurant up to 12am. Would definitely stay again.

Nice rooms, but very basic Nice rooms, but very basic

The rooms at Spice of Life were great. It is also extremely close to the beach such that you can even get a beach view room. Things to remember - Internet keeps going off. No drinking water in rooms. No telephone in rooms. No fridge or TV in rooms. Staircase is small and without railing. Not recommended for old people. Had to ask for a small table stand. Lighting in rooms is kind of dim. As the hotel sees mostly foreign guests, these amenities are not provided so you'll need to ask for it. The manager is quite nice. Restaurant serves great food. Market is close by.

Couple of days stay in April Couple of days stay in April

Had a little nose online of what Mandrem had to offer and once we arrived we went straight to SOL to check out the rooms. Compared to the rest of Goa the prices are very good and you won't find anywhere near the same quality for the same price . The rooms are clean, big and very cool. We opted for a non-A/C room and we slept like babies. Didn't get much of a chance to try the food as we only stopped for a few days but the smells wafting out of the kitchen were wonderus! The owner Carmen and her family are fantastic hosts. The Nepalese boys are hilarious once you get to know them, safe travels home boys!
