Local Jaipur charm. Local Jaipur charm.

by Julian R on May 18, 2019

We went for a cooking experience and were not disappointed. Durga Singh and his charming wife were the most delightful and informative hosts and we ate what we had prepared. They have turned their home into what looked like a beautiful boutique hotel nestled in old world charm. We did not stay there but wished we had. A good reason to return.

This really felt like being a guest in a private house, just individuals no groups, with the host Durga Singh patrician to a T, marvellous reception with (his aristocratic wife) the ambience service and staff beyond reproach. A limited number of rooms around a courtyard (12 only I think) Breakfast and dinner well prepared and served and reasonable Well placed just outside the city walls near the market One caveat was the "cookery course" which was fun but wildly over-priced (or our charge), negotiate with caution

This is a gem of a place to stay, an oasis of calm and beauty just off a main street. Mr Singh and his wonderful staff do everything to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Puppets, cooking demonstration and bed-tea make this a very special place. Thank you from the Norris Family!

Beautiful Hotel Beautiful Hotel

by LadyWillow2014 on April 17, 2019

We arrived in the dark on a wet evening and were warmly greeted by Mr Singh and his staff. He offered us a drink whilst we completed the check-in procedure. The Dera Mandawa is a beautiful hotel set around a peaceful courtyard. Our room was incredibly spacious, clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We ate at the hotel on both evenings and the food was good. You are woken each morning with a tray of tea delivered to your door which is a lovely touch. I would highly recommend the Dera Mandawa; it is centrally located but once you are in the door you are in a haven of peace.

Delightful - and perfect for a safe and entertaining Holi Festival Delightful - and perfect for a safe and entertaining Holi Festival

by Hilarybb on April 14, 2019

We arrived in Jaipur on the evening of Holi and were warmly welcomed by Mr Singh Ji, owner of Dera Mandawa who offered us the opportunity to participate in the celebrations. From the minute we arrived we felt part of the family, and along with other guests we were soon in the festival spirit. On the eve of Holi after dinner we were invited to don a saree with the assistance of Mr Singh's wife and daughter; men were offered brightly coloured head gear. After an explanation (for our benefit) the celebrations began with music, dancing and a bonfire. The following morning, dressed in momentarily clean Indian Pyjamas we joined in the fun with the Mandawa family, staff and local children, coloured powders thrown and daubed on everyone. What an amazing experience! We also felt privileged to be invited to take part, as well as being properly entertained, well looked after and completely safe. We spent a further two nights at Dera Mandawa; it is a beautiful property. We felt like royalty in our clean, lofty, airy room, especially when a wake-up call was delivered with a tea tray. Meals were freshly made, tasty and well presented. There is clearly strong community spirit here, with attention to detail and hospitality as key principles.
