A great place to stay a night but ... A great place to stay a night but ...

by Richard57UK on March 13, 2019

You won't forget a stay at the Samode Palace. It is a wonderful building: the rooms are unique and the Durbar Hall and one or two other parts of the hotel are such that, if it were not a hotel, people would pay to come to see it. As a hotel, however, it is good but slightly below the highest class. The staff are pleasant and the service is good but the restaurants are not top quality (e.g. our breakfast included some rather stale pastries and some soya milk in a container that showed that it was past its "best before" date). We came to the hotel having recently stayed in the Oberoi hotels at Agra and Ranthambore so perhaps we were spoilt but I still think that improvement is possible.

Charming hotel, charming staff Charming hotel, charming staff

by Ellen H on March 11, 2019

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in January as part of our Honeymoon adventure. After a long drive from Agra, we arrived and experienced the most warm check-in with the most charming staff, having been offered hot chai and biscuits and followed by an in-depth cricket chat which my husband was thrilled by. We were generously offered an upgrade to a suite which was beautiful, especially the huge marble bath tub and views overlooking the hills. Sadly I was taken ill that evening and was in bed for the rest of the stay, however was very well looked after with staff sending ginger, tea, porridge etc to the room to help. My husband enjoyed a tour of the palace which he said was breathtaking, and also took a walk around the village which was interesting too. He said his meals at both restaurants were delightful. It was too cold in the day to swim in the pool but the upper pool was beautiful and a perfect spot for reading. Thank you for a fantastic stay and for loading us up with water and snacks for our drive onwards too, we felt very well looked after.

This has become my new favourite hotel. The public spaces are stunning and my room was huge, clean and comfortable. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The most outstanding feature for me was the food, both in the ordinary restaurant and especially in the fine dining restaurant. The menu was varied and interesting, the staff were knowledgeable and helpful with food choices, the presentation was exquisite and the flavours out of this world. After dinner one evening, we were invited into the kitchen to meet the chef and the rest of the kitchen staff, this was a real privilege. I dont often write an hotel review, the hotel has to be outstandingly good or spectacularly bad for me to bother. This hotel is outstandingly good and I would love to return here one day.

This was such a wonderful place. It had a genuine authentic feel having been a palace into relatively recently. Wonderful ambiance, excellent food, first class service. Take your time to explore the place and take a walk up to the old fort above the palace for fine views. Lie by the pool or if you are feeling more energetic walk the 4 kms to the shrine of the monkey god. This is a real oasis.

Beautiful stay Beautiful stay

After a mixed bag of "heritage" hotels in Rajasthan , this was our final stop , and such a relief to have true 5* luxury. Admittedly we had one of the suites (free upgrade?).It was very stylish with a lovely luxury bathroom. Its fun to explore the staircases , roof tops and courtyards. Other have criticised the service , but we had no complaints at all. We didn't bother with the "fine dining" restaurant : the main one is fine, though indoors it is a bit "bright" . The patio area however is a lovely spot and they light wood fired braziers to keep off the chill in February. Also a lovely sunny spot for an excellent leisurely breakfast. It is a very long way from Jaipur (so dont do that as a day-trip: it would be a nightmare round trip) , but we enjoyed a leisurely day around the two pool , just chilling. It is true that its popular photo-shoot location , but that just added a bit of interest as far as we were concerned.
