No clear advantage of this homestay - for Indians No clear advantage of this homestay - for Indians

by Sds S on March 26, 2016

All hotels were booked out hence chose this homestay. Room (1st floor) was clean and well maintained although mosquitoes would sneak in (most pondy streets were very dirty with garbage strewn around mindlessly). I see other reviewers talking about bad rooms, perhaps ours was the one generally let out to "Foreigners and Indians with no kids" that's why the superior quality furniture. No breakfast was provided for Indians. Except for guiding us on all the cottage industries we should visit there was no help from this couple, not even a cup of tea in the morning for my parents (mom had a knee issue and could not walk around much).

Very warm hospitality Very warm hospitality

We had one night on our roundtrip through the south of India and experienced a very warm welcome at the homestay and a very delicious breakfast. The location is just a few blocks away from the park, very clean and neat. We got nice support about directions, restaurant and what is worth visiting around in that area.

The rooms are old! Pictures uploaded are DEFINITELY DECEIVING. Freckles all over the walls and paint falling off! Sheets look old , washed but faded. Definitely not appropriate for people wanting to blow off steam and looking out for a good time. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Disgusting - Don't be fooled by the decade-old photos Disgusting - Don't be fooled by the decade-old photos

Situated in the middle of a dirty and smelly street with algae covered buildings on either sides it takes quite some will power to even go inside. If you do however get to the house, you're welcomed by a stinking, dingy smell and old dirty walls with paint-less patches as you step inside. If you have a weak nose and eyesight you'll be able to reach the bed-rooms. The beds and pillow covers are full of yellow patches and smell like dirty filthy socks, the paint is scraping off of the walls right next to the bed and is repelling. The bathrooms were "relatively clean" but tolerable only if you've lived in college hostels and absolutely not what you're looking for while on a holiday. It's a wonder we even stayed the 15 mins that we did in that place (only for calling and ensuring availability at another hotel before leaving this place). Although we did forfeit a Rs 1500/- advance it simply, plainly just wasn't worth it.

Great homestay Great homestay

We had four nights at Chitra and Pradip's spotlessly clean home on a very quiet street in Pondi. They were the perfect hosts and we appreciated very much their warm and friendly nature. Meeranjali is within walking distance to most of the tourist attractions. Highly recommended.
