Vatika Guest House was the perfect place to land when visiting India for the first time. The warm, welcoming atmosphere, homecooked meals, clean, comfortable room and private bath and shower gave us everything we needed to explore and get oriented. The location couldn't be better: just a short walk to the prom, the ashram and the ayurvedic hospital is right around the corner offering amazing therapeutic treatments. Datta, the proprietress, also has a small boutique on the ground floor with apparel and beautiful artwork. Don't miss the rooftop for a 360 view of Pondicherry! We look forward to our next stay at Vatika Guesthouse. Thank you Datta!

I booked this place online. It was such a charming little zen home, very well done and kept neat and clean. The owner is a very helpful woman and is willing to provide any local information. They also cater for food but you will have to inform them that you will have food there (charges apply). Location is excellent and ideal.

Its a great place to stay if you are planning to visit pondicherry. The location is very central and is within walking distance to quiet a few places. The rooms are cozy and have a mix of colors. It's a gorgeously restored heritage house, full of character and culture. Located not far from the Promenade, Vatika easily blends the old world with modern amenities. Ms.Dutta was extremely helpful in getting us settled in. I loved the fact that you receive any information you would want to know from her. The Promenade is close by and so are some really good restaurants. The quality of food is fresh and good. Room amenities are basic and organic, rooms are clean and odor free.It was truely a pleasure meeting you Ms.Dutta and the amount of knowledge you shared with us was amazingly helpful. Will hope to return to this place again someday.

A reasonably good stay! A reasonably good stay!

We were two girls visiting Pondicherry for a weekend. We had called the morning of our stay and had booked over phone. The rooms were cozy and comfortable.Only the bathroom was not cleaned properly.Else the stay was good. There is no food option available at guest house, but the location is near to the beach road and white town so plenty of restaurants nearby. The location is good but no parking facility.Lot of space by the road where you can park your vehicle safely. There is a curfew of 10pm which dint seem to be such a big deal when we booked the rooms, but once we were enjoying Pondicherry at the night time ,the curfew time seemed to be a bit too early..Else overall a good stay!

Not a good welcome and Curfew to get home. Not a good welcome and Curfew to get home.

We had booked our stay at Vatika guest house 2 months prior. Its very reasonable. We were looking at budget stay and this was apt right at the end of Promenade. Just a week prior to our trip we received a call from the owner saying that she has cancelled our booking as the place needed a huge plumbing job which would take over a week and none of rooms would have water supply. She was apologetic and asked me to send my account details to return the money. With just 1 week left for the trip the hotels and home stays prices had gone up and to our horror all travel websites stated sold out. There was just one sad place which we could block a room. In the meanwhile my friends and I kept calling Vatika guest house to return our advance payment, either the phone was not reachable or no answer. We tried going to all the hotels one by one for a room and all were full since it was the long weekend. We decided to pay a visit to Vatika guest house as my friend had expirienced a similar incident where the booking after confirming was cancelled and was given a reason. We stopped by at vatika at around 3pm it was hot humid and we were hungry we were waiting at the door for 5 mins we knew someone was there watching from inside, we just wanted to collect our payment, the owner herself opened the door and we asked for our payment and she asked us if we found a room we said no and she cooly told us we have room thats getting ready you could take that, she had recognised us, we were 3 women, we just dropped our bags and told her will have lunch and return. The point was why do something like this when its a long weekend, why make us hunt when there was a room available and give us plumbing story. Then we were told the curfew time of 10.30pm, we had to be home by 10.30 sadly. we dedcided to stay only 2 days. For Breakfast we had to eat what was made, we expected some eggs as per our choice but were told this is what is there French toast and some french bread and bananas, very average. But not for people who like to stay out late and explore the place. There were other guests too in the guest house i dont know why was our booking cancelled. They had a wifi that was supposed to be free but didnt work at all.
