Salcette when literally translated in Konkanni it means ‘Sashti’ that means locals or villagers. However in Sanskrit, the word Salcette means Sassast which means the number 66. Salcette denotes South Goa which is occupied by the aboriginal residents of the region. Margao is known to be the largest town of the district. With sixty-six villages in the south, Salcette is emerging as a popular tourist hotspot in Goa. With North of Goa losing luster and sheen, Salcette warmly welcomes all the travelers. There are approximately six communidades in Salcette namely, Margao, Raia, Curtorim, Verna, Loutolim, Quelossim and Benaulim. The Arabian Sea lies west of Salcette and offers this region pristine white sandy beaches and an untarnished and intact coastline. Salcette is a well connected region of Goa.
