Decent hotel, tired in some of the public areas but the rooms were well appointed, included a safe and an ironing board. Nothing in the mini-bar which was a shame. Breakfast was ok, went a-la-carte but the buffet looked good. Good coffee, appalling alcohol free beer (dry state). If you want an alcoholic drink then prepare yourself for bureaucracy on a truly immense scale. Tried to charge us for the room as we left despite it being paid upfront, which was disappointing.

Located on the SG highway this is a great place to stay. The staff is extremely helpful. The day i checked in, i caught a bad cold Soumya from the front desk got the chef to make me hot ginger water. Gourav and Ashish from guest relations were extremely helpful too. Thanks Gourav for your tips on must visit places in ahmedabad. When the staff checked us in and gave our rooms, they did not inform me that we had been upgraded from Superior to Deluxe. He even offered to upgrade us provided we submitted the upgrade voucher. Since we were unaware of the upgrade, we did not know what the difference between the two categories was. On the last day when I presented my room upgrade voucher, I was informed that we had already been upgraded. On inquiry, I was informed that the Deluxe room involved evening turn down service. When I informed the then duty manager that we haven't been given any such service, he apologised and on the last night, we had the first and the last turn down service. The only service we got was the room make-up once a day. At the time of check out I spoke to Monel Desai, Duty Manager about this and he offered me to make up by giving us a dinner in Mumbai. The next day he called up and stated that on verifying with the housekeeping, he was informed that we used to have do not disturb sign on (which statement is not correct because our rooms were always made up when we were out - you may check up the entry logs of master key card for our rooms. If we had do not disturb signs on, the rooms wouldn't have been made up. And if this was the case how was the turn down service given on the last night?). I asked Monel to do a log verification about the master key card entry and do not disturb sign on entry in the records of the hotel. He reverted by stating the CCTV footage showed the staff entering our rooms the second time. However, since we found the turn down services were not performed, we wonder what was the staff doing in our rooms? I never asked to be compensated. Thus, I can conclude that one of the Accor Hotels have erred by taking a guest for a ride and the manager has just given a lip service without any intention of keeping his word of mouth. We found that air conditioners of both our rooms worked perfectly till about 3 AM. Around this time we found that the ACs were turned down making us suffocate. We used to wake up and reduce the temperature to 22. Since it happened every night and in both rooms, one can say that this was the hotel policy to cut costs (this is a no-no for a Novotel brand). Moreover, the weighing scale in the bathroom was not working. At the time of the check out also, I found errors in the billing. I was charged for breakfast even though I had paid for it in advance. Rectification wasted a lot of my time and we missed out on exploring the City.

There is nothing luxurious about the service at Novotel Ahmedabad. The wait staff at the lobby level coffee-shop are very obviously untrained. Rather than a hotel calling itself a luxury hotel, they seem more suited to a railway canteendisinterested, and extremely uncomfortable in English. Alas, the food does not match the standard of a good railway canteen. It is horrible, oily and just horrible. I cannot believe that a restaurant in India has the audacity to serve the kind of samosas that I was served at Novotel Ahmedabad. The Spa in the hotel does not fare much better. The staff though courteous are untrained. The massages provided are ok, but not the best. The ambience is not tranquil nor suited for a peaceful, relaxing session. As for the other Salon related services, go somewhere else. They don't even know how to cut and file nails! And, they are not big on hygiene. Their equipment is sub-standard; the lighting is diffused (thus not optimum for salon related services); and they are not equipped for the services that they providethe therapists have to lug heavy copper bowls filled with hot-water, that quickly get cold, to and fro from the tiny massage rooms.

We had just moved to Ahmedabad and stayed a week in this hotel. It was a great experience and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect, considering its proximity to some interesting locales.
