I have been staying here for long but was pleasantly surprised to see recent renovation. Hotel has improved substantially, its been painted, mattresses have been replaced, floor has been polished. Food quality has improved, overall, good experience.
Location is right in the downtown area, very accessible, rooms are badly in need of a repair, stains everywhere. water taps not working. looks like they didn't dust the entire room for ages. 2nd floor was under renovation hence very noisy, best for bachelors and I wont recommend for families.
I have stayed this hotel on my recent trip to Allahabad, The Location of the hotel is good right at the main road but on the flip side, the rooms are of average quality. But Compared to the tariff, its a value for money
We visited Allahabad after our Varanasi stay, again we didnt booked any hotel hence we asked our driver help us to find some standard hotel near to Civil Line.
All hotels in Allahabad are situated at M.G Marg Civil Lines, hence we started searching for our hotel finally we found this hotel & luckily two rooms are available.
After a journey of 5 long Hrs. from Varanasi we get in the hotel about 6PM, however limited availability of food as we found there is no guest is staying in this hotel.
However, rooms are big enough & specious, but not well maintained; some of the lights inside the rooms are not working, found seepage through water Tap, no running Hot water at bathroom. After called the room service people they manage to work the geyser.
After a long request they also manage to provide room heater, due to heavy cold at the month of December.
Railway station is near of this hotel & this hotel situated at the heart of the main road, & opposite of Indian Coffee house.
I had to visit Allahabad between 5-11 July and stay there for 6 nights, so I was in search of a good hotel there which could be in the vicinity of my work place in Civil Lines. I zeroed in on two hotels there one Saket and other Kanha Shyam. But tariff of kanha Shyam was a little over my budget, hence I finally chose Saket whose tariff fits in the middle class budget. It is located in Civil Lines just opposite the iconic "The Indian Coffee House" which was once frequented by Nehruji, Sapruji, katjuji etc. in the pre-independence era. also it is situated in between the Railway Station and the Bus Depot (Roadways), Civil Lines.
Pros : Though the hotel is on the main road, but is away from din and bustle of the city as its entrance is from abroad side way with ample parking. Tariff is moderate, but one can still bargain. Room service is excellent with daily cleaning and change. Meals and breakfasts served are delicious, but their tariff is on the higher side, one can get everything cheaper just by crossing the road where a variety of south indian, north indian, veg, non-veg are available at reasonable rates. Further, Govinda's - the restaurants run by Hotel Saket has limitations in the sense that it only serves Vegetarian meals. However, the presence of one street eatery - named "Eat On" a few steps away from Saket on the opposite side compensates this gap as one can get excellent quality fresh non-veg foods at reasonably lower price. The famous old Palace Cinema hall is at a walking distance as two other theatres.
Cons : Some of the rooms is still equipped with the old model TV in place of LCD/LED one. Others facilities are also basic. One may not hot water 24 hours in the bathroom, The hotel building - a huge one- is not complete yet, some furnishing/repair work continues which may be jarring sometimes. But what is most lacking is the unavailability of 'wi fi' - free or charged in the hotel which has now assumed the proportion of a restaurant without which one feels hungry.
My overall impression of the hotel is that it is one of the best budget hotels in Civil Lines, Allahabad. I will certainly like to stay in this hotel next time if I happen to visit Allahabad.
