The room size is miniscule.. Wash rooms are also very small. The worst part is that the rooms are very dimly lit. As there is no source of natural light inside the rooms, the dim lights made the room feel very dingy. I booked through Oyo Rooms and expected the property to be better. It should not be priced for more than Rs 999 which is the starting rate of Oyo Rooms. Only had breakfast as it was included in the tariff which was just ok.
We recently stayed at Tepsi Hotel, Allahabad and were extremely disappointed with the rooms. It showed beautiful pics on the Internet when we were booking it, so we decided to stay there. When we got there, the whole hotel was in shambles and was being painted. The room and the bathroom was in horrible shape, air condition had only one setting and lots of mosquitoes on the room. The bathroom was disgusting. When we asked our money back because we didn't want to stay there, the manager refused. Since we already had paid for it, we had no choice but to stay. I can never forget the terrible experience there. By morning I was feeling sick side I suffer from Asthma and the room had a terrible smell. I will never recommend this hotel to anyone, not until it is completely renovated.
We i.e. my wife and myself had planned to visit Allahabad immediately after Holi i.e. reaching there on 7th March, 2015 to meet our son who is studying there. However, Holi was played everywhere on 6th but as we learnt later, it was played on 7th in Allahabad! All hotels, restaurants, markets, means of local travel were completely shut down on account of Holi on 7th. Under these circumstances, my son had to do a lot of R & D to find a hotel for us. Major considerations were availability despite Holi festival, nearness to the market, not too far from the medical college hostel, and sensible budget which won't go through the roof. Ultimately, when he informed that he has booked Tepso hotel for us, I was curious to know about it and therefore visited tripadvisor.com to know more about it. I found just two reviews - one voting AVERAGE and another TERRIBLE. OMG! What to do now? My son also told me on whatsapp that kitchen would start only in the evening of 7th and therefore arranging lunch for us is still a major issue. As far as quality of the hotel is concerned, he assured us that he had personally checked each and every room and has opted for the one which he found to be the best. On 6th, before our departure he further informed that he has been able to arrange packed lunch for the three of us from some other hotel. So far so good!
Well, when no autorickshaw driver agreed to take us to the hotel on 7th noon due to Holi, again, our son picked us up at the Prayag station by borrowing a car from his senior and we reached the hotel which is between Subhash Chowk and Church on M.G. Road (Civil Lines Area). The first things that I noticed were ample space for parking and the fact that the hotel is a single story building. The room (# 107) was of average size (roughly 18' x 12') and pleasantly illuminated. A full sized double-bed, two sofa chairs, dressing table, a wardrobe with hangers, 32" LED TV with TATA SKY connection, Daiken brand split AC, 24-hour hot and cold water in the bathroom were there. There was even an electric kettle to make tea but my wife found it to be dysfunctional. Room rent Rs. 2,200/- per day for double occupancy. As per prevailing rates in Civil Lines area of Allahabad, this was to be considered a 'Budget hotel'.
We already had the lunch packs with us which were delivered at the medical college, we enjoyed the lunch and decided to rest for a while. Our son had to go to his emergency ward duties and he returned to dine with us at around 10 p.m. Instead of going somewhere else We opted the hotel's restaurant. The restaurant appeared much larger in size viz. a viz. limited number of rooms in the hotel. The veg preparations matched with our taste and so, we dined there happily. The waiter was helpful in selecting the items to order for by telling about which of the dishes would be spicy. Since there were many families dining there with small children, cacophony was definitely there but besides that, everything else was pleasantly accepted. There is a lawn immediately outside the restaurant with some swings for children which gave a nice feeling.
However, at 11 p.m. I needed a mineral water bottle and called both numbers of room service (20 and 25) but no one took my call. In the morning at around 7 a.m. I again tried to call again but with same result. When I went for a walk at around 7.15 a.m., I took the staff to task for not taking the call.
On 8th morning, we had decided to visit Varanasi and we had the option of switching over to some other hotel or to continue at the same place. Since my wife agreed to continue at Tepso only, we told them that we were continuing for one more day.
Its a small hotel and a good restaurant I must say (food especially).
We booked this hotel for marriage of my niece and being from the girls side we wanted a place that was apt for guests, open area, common space + parking and cooking facilties. The owner was kind enough and allowed for us to make own arangements for food. It has a couple of rooms that are pretty large and that was extremely helpful. Although this was in early 2014, I thought it would be reasonable for anyone who is looking for a place in Allahabad that is extremely wlel located, is close to busiest market area, has variability in rooms + in fcat they have a dormitory too. I realize it may not be the perfect holiday destination but for the purpose we used this, it was absolutely fit for the need.
Rooms are dirty and bathrooms are horrible. Price of foods are more than 5 star hotel with poor food quality. Never opt for this hotel. Do not stay in this hotel. Railway platform is even better. Rooms are full with mosquitoes. Even cowsheds are more clean than this hotel.
