Great Value for Money Hotel in Amritsar
We stayed in this hotel during our Golden Temple - Wagha Border trip.
Location: The hotel is located near Cooper Road, in a sub-road beneath the starting point of cooper road bridge. The location is not very appealing, but the hotel is an exceptional value for money one. And this property is situated very near to the Golden Temple & Jalianwalabag
Room & Service: Their rooms are very reasonably priced and very very spacious!!. The amenities include a king-sized bed, a small tea table with 2 chairs, a dressing table, wardrobe, bathing tub etc.... Really worth the money we spent and may be more than that. The receptionists and the hotel staff were helping, well mannered and polite. However, the room service is available up to 11:30 PM only.
Food: The hotel serves authentic Punjabi and North Indian foods from their kitchen. The food was reasonably priced and was really a gastronomic heaven. We enjoyed their Butter Chicken, Tandoori stuff and Roti. Tip: Order only one side dish per two-person, since the food portion is really large.
In & Around: Golden Temple and Jalianwalabag are very near. Visit these places during early morning so that you get sufficient time to go to Waga Border ( Indo- Pak border ) and see the parade.
Overall: A very nice stay.
I have travelled extensively through India and I have stayed in a huge variety of paid accommodation, from back packer places in Chennai, to Haveli in Udaipur, to five star hotels in Mumbai and Delhi. I have stayed in places in Bhopal, Kanyakumari, Kovalam, Ernakulam, Mangalore, Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune, Goa, Varanasi, Jaipur, Agra, I could go on.
I have slept on rock hard beds, seen dirty overpriced hellholes and the most charming gems.
Reactions to my often solo travel have ranged from indifference, shock, bemusement, amusement and curiosity but usually professional friendliness.
I have learned that you dont always get what you pay for, and that quality comes with different star ratings and sometimes surprisingly inexpensively. Staying at Sachins was one of the best experiences that I have had as a guest.
The hotel has the feel of a classic Haveli, with lots of terraces and open space. I was greeted by both husband and wife, we had tea, they gave me lots of good advice and made me feel very welcome. I was then shown to my huge room that felt like a suite, with lots of light, a nice seating area with a small couch, chair and table, a big comfy bed, the brightest cleanest 5 star crisp fresh sheets, 2 bath towels, 2 bars of soap, toilet paper, 2 fans, AC and a heater, a separate dressing room and large bathroom with hot water via a geyser that you controlled yourself. The room even had a swing and a working phone to reception. There is lift (elevator) and the people who work there are very helpful.
I am assuming that the 2 star rating might have something to do with the fact that the place is a bit run down, but you are also paying rock bottom prices for a 5 star attitude. There is a difference between clean and worn. This place is very clean, and for the price, it is an astonishing good deal, and such beautiful architecture.
Yes, there is mildly leaky plumbing and peeling paint, but I have paid a lot more for such things at other hotels. These are also details that the owners are well aware of, and are working on. There were small power outages and brief gaps in the good signal free wifi, again, this can happen everywhere and often does.
The attention I was shown, the time my hosts spent with me, the concern and care above and beyond what anyone would expect and the delicious breakfasts included in the price made up for the slightly shabby bits, things that are easy to overlook especially in context. Clean, quiet, elegant, beautiful, safe and well located with the outstanding Surjit's Food Plaza just minutes away as well as great shops all along the street!
Sachin and his wife and staff are the kind of people who genuinely like other people, who really care about their guests. I wish more hoteliers were like them!
Overall one of my best most pleasant stays ever, thank you! I will be back!
