I was offered not a tour but a driver for more than my hotel and the agency at the airport were offering. It is rundown with a bar that smells and as far as I am concerned the food was mediocre at best.

Hotel was convenient from railway station. Great location, just opposite the train station. Room was comfortable & functional. Staff are helpful & friendly. They organised our trip to the border, mata temple & golden temple for Rs 1800/Wifi worked okay. The garden is lovely to sit out and enjoy the quietness. I love old buildings & can understand the hard work that goes to maintain them. Will stay here again.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff on reception. They can organise tours to see the local sights. Hotel is literally right outside the train station. The reception area and courtyard is pretty. Cons: Bed smelled like smoke. Stains on the sofa. The shower didn't work. Only a trickle came out and I ended up having to wash my hair in the tap. The bar is mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide book but it was empty and the food so so. Chunks of spice not blended in my curry meant I couldn't finish my dal. Worth it all for the Golden Temple. If you visit here are some rules to follow that we only worked out a bit late: Men and Women must cover their heads. They provide orange head scarves but they aren't very flattering for girls so you might want to by a scarf from a nearby seller. They're cheap enough. Couples shouldn't stand close together for photos. Don't stand near the water's edge - sit down cross legged instead, don't dangle your feet in the water. Hope that helps!

Memorable experience at The Grand Hotel Memorable experience at The Grand Hotel

by Mukesh K on September 19, 2016

I stayed in Grand Hotel last week. Was there for 3 days with my friends and was very pleased with my experience at the hotel. We had a little confusion at the airport and one of our bags got left behind, which we only realised upon arrival at the hotel. Just then, the owner of the hotel, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, asked us if he could help. And within 20 minutes after making couple of calls our remaining bag was in the hotel cab at the airport (for pickup for other guests). Additionally, he made us feel at ease and offered a glass of draught beer each. And told us what not to miss in Amritsar during our stay. We were very grateful for his helpfulness and kindness. The rooms are basic and neat. For 1500 a night, we were extremely content. Clean bathrooms and food at the restaurant is superb. Even the staff is friendly. Try the tandoori chicken (dinner)- so juicy - lasagne - butter chicken and even Chinese items! And the draught beer for 120 only! :D We would recommend this hotel and its hospitality! Warm Regards, Mukesh

I had a pleasant stay in Grand hotel. Its peaceful and quiet with a well maintained garden overlooking the rooms. Our Room was clean & functional. Staff was helpful & they organized our tour to the border, golden temple and mata temple at a reasonable price. Would recommend the draught beer here. Overall a good experience & would recommend to other travellers.
