Nothing else on the planet can be a better example than Bethania Resort for mismanagement and irresponsible hospitality. To start with, 'Bethania Resort' is just the name of the property where as, actually, it is nothing more than a lodge. The mismanagement starts right from the building of the property. 26 rooms, as it is claimed in TripAdvisor, are built in a narrow strip of land where you cannot even think of more than two villas. There are five apartment-like two-storey blocks, which are closer enough to pose considerable threat to the privacy of the guests. Windows with transparent glasses of the apartments face each other. Windows of the rooms open to a common veranda. The cot in standard rooms is positioned near this windows and believe it or not, this window in our room had no hook or latch!! I slept with my wife and two kids in a room with a window which anyone could open from out side!!! I had actually booked an AC Suit Room over telephone and I did ask if I had to transfer an amount to their account as an advance. They said they did not want any advance and assured me that the room would be available. But things were the other way round when I reached there after a five hour journey with my wife and two children, one of five years and the other of six months. All the suit rooms were occupied and what they had to offer was a small, shabby Non AC Standard Room. This happened because, I infer, there are two or three people dealing with the bookings and they do not communicate each other properly. There was plenty of dirt, dust and cobwebs in the room. The bed linen and comforters were dirty and the bath towel was torn. However, they were generous enough to give us an extra bed at free of cost. The restaurant is on a rivulet and the ambiance is pleasing. But the noodles we had was totally disappointing. They charged rupees 1750 for our stay in the non AC Standard room with complimentary breakfast. Though they said the amount is inclusive of tax, they did not issue any legally valid tax bills. To conclude, Bethania Resort is driven by minimum investment maximum profit motive and you will not get anything of good quality there. Further, as its location is not much exciting, your stay here will not be any different from one in Thrissur city, in terms of ambiance, where as you may get far better rooms and amenities for the same or a lower rate in a star hotel in the city. (I shifted to a four star hotel in the city the next day at a rate much lower than Bethania's).

Away from City Away from City

Room was quite clean and refreshing, but no place to spend time like no swimming pool or garden nearby. service was good. Food options are not available. Few waterfalls are located nearby. but only time to visit during monsoon, Don't plan this location during summer or winter. your time will be waste.

It's an average resort.cramped rooms. The family room has two bedrooms but one toilet and only one bedroom is provided with Ac and TV. Food was average. But for the cost it's okay. Various options are available nearby. If you are a budget traveller I suggest this resort. Apart from visiting the waterfalls, there is no activity in the resort.

Comfortable Accomodation amidst the Jungle Comfortable Accomodation amidst the Jungle

by Gordon R on November 22, 2016

Our first day in India, we went straight from the airport to a rich tropical ecosystem with deer, macaque monkeys, and a variety of birds such as hornbills. Bethania, like much of Athirapilly, caters mainly for Indian tourists rather than westerners (mainly as there aren't many westerners there!) so if you want the Hilton you won't find it. But if you want to experience authentic Indian cuisine and watch the jungle wildlife from the balcony, I'd recommend it. Our room had a separate bedroom, bathroom, and living area, and size was adequate though not large. Cold showers - which was fine in these temperatures. No toilet paper. Free wifi only in lobby. Food available at reasonable prices but you are billed for each item brought out unless included in eg bed and breakfast. Friendly staff, and I recommend the guided walk from the hotel to the waterfall and back - our knowledgeable guide Vishnu was great! It was one of our favorite stays in Kerala and we'd love to stay there again.
