At a place like Badrinath, this is a very good hotel.
Our stay was normal, everything was fine. It is an average property.
The stay was not pleasant to say the least.Earlier I was offered rooms on 3rd floor but the elevator wasn't working and as I was travelling with elder ppl, this was inconvenient, the receptionist was very unhelpful and rude, after having a heated argument with him,I was able to get rooms on ground floor,I wonder how within few mins the occupied rooms on ground floor became vacant. The rooms on 3rd fllor were better than the rooms on ground, ground floor rooms had no carpet which is must at such cold places. Some standards should be maintained and proper rooms should be made available.I had a very bad time and will never book hotels thru travelguru ever again, zero value for money, when I paid so much money I expect some quality,I think opting for dharamshala would have been a better option than sarovar portico. The walls in corridor were leaking. No one should book rooms at sarovar portico.
Access & Location: Sarovar Portico is located right at the start of Badrinath town. The Badrinath temple is about a 15-20 minutes walk from the hotel. Parking: Hotel has sufficient parking space for cars & buses. Room: Rooms are nice & clean. Hotel provides centralised heating through heater vents which is nice but personally i did not like it as these vents cannot be switched on/off for a room. Either they will be on for the hoteloff for everyone. My room got quite warm due to thishad to open the window to get some cold air in :-) Food: Food in the restaurant was good. They have a nice menualmost had everything you will expect in a good menu Overall: Sarovar Portico is a good hoteleasily the best place to stay in Badrinath. It is a bit costly to other options but then you have to remember that at a place like Badrinath its not easy to provide such kind of facilities so you need to pay for enjoying it.

Stayed with my family during our Char Dham Yatra. Booked a suite and found the rooms very spacious and comfortable. Road facing room had excellent view of the mountain. Close walking distance to the temple. Breakfast was standard.
Visited there with spouse and parents during Char Dham yatra. Location was good. It was at walkable distance from main mandir. Rooms are specious. Maintenance was not up to the mark. But this is the most what you can expect from a place which is having only 6 month business cycle.
We started for Badrinath from Uttarkashi very early in the morning around 5.00 am. One has to start as early as possible for Badrinath from Uttarkashi. You have to reach the check post which is around 1 to 2 hour drive from Joshimath latest by 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. If you miss the check post timings, then you will not be allowed to go further and you will have to stay at Joshimath. The check post closes at around 6:30pm to 7:00pm. We started from Uttarkashi and reached check post around 6:00 pm. In the makeshift office necessary entries and details were furnished and then we started our further journey to Badrinath. The road is not so great. The BRO (Border Roads Organisation) is in the process to make it better but the nature also makes sure to show who is the commanding boss :-) Still BRO has done a great work so far. The road is initially very nice but later on it actually turns out to be a raw driving. You need a very good and experienced driver as the bends are very narrow and steep. It took almost 2 hours to reach to Badrinath from the check post and we must say the drive was very tiring. One can go for additional speed but it is strictly not advisable as with every bend the altitude increases rapidly. Badrinath is around 10,825 ft. above sea level. For us it took good almost 15 hours to reach Sarovar Portico in Badrinath. The hotel is very nice and located at the very beginning of Badrinath. Entire location and surroundings have a great visual and I must say, its very spiritual. One can see the Divine glimpse of Nar and Narayan parvat from the hotel compound. We opted for a Deluxe Double room at Sarovar Portico. Check-in process was very smooth. Given the fact that this hotel remains closed for more than 6 months and all bookings are handled from Delhi as most of the times connectivity is an issue. Still they had all the details and the check-in was hassle free. Room was specious with properly maintained linen. There was enough space in the room for sitting. Ventilation was nice and view from room was great. Food quality was nice and taste was delicious. You have good number of options to try out. Staff was very informative and supportive. On next morning we were scheduled to visit the Badrinath temple. We decided to take a dip in Taptakund and for that we requested for extra set of towels at hotel, which were provided without any issue. Dip in Taptakund is amazing. At this altitude you have a hot water spring which is not only amazing but it is a great experience to take a dip in Taptakund. After this we visited Lord Badrinath temple and suddenly there was a joy and mind was very calm. It is a must visit at-least once in lifetime. Overall, the hotel is very nice and comfortable. You have other options in Badrinath for stay but the quality of Sarovar Portico, which makes the difference.
The hotel is situated on road just on entry to Badrinath and temple is on 10 minutes walk. Very basic hotel and doesn't compare with other Sarovar hotels. May be it runs only in season. The road side rooms have beautiful view of mountain.
The hotel lacks maintenance. Lift not working, central heating not working, bed warmers not working(in one of the rooms out of 2 that we took) Infact the blower was also not working but was changed immediately. Paint is chipping all over the hotel. There are gaps of 2 inches between the floor and room main entrance doors and in the night the room became so cold, even a towel could not fill the gap. The carpet in the rooms is in a bad shape. We could not find any brand hotel on the net so we went for Sarovar thinking they will follow some basic guidelines and principles of a branded hotel but felt really sad after seeing its state. It really does not deserve the price that they are charging. Its time the management wakes up and take firm steps to improve its condition otherwise Sarovar will have a bad name. The staff was courteous but here the customer wants service and not just nice words. I understand that the area is closed for 6 months
