Simply The Best! Simply The Best!

by Linda K on January 14, 2017

This TAJ Safari Camp is spectacular! From the first moment you arrive until you have to leave you will be treated royally. The camp is a tranquil spot located right next to the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve so you are close to the action. The camp is beautifully decorated and is designed to blend with its natural surroundings. The indivual lodges are far away from one another to insure privacy. The lodges themselves are spacious and luxurious. Coffee/Tea/Biscuits are brought to your lodge before breakfast. The jeep safaris are well organized with knowledgeable guides. There are quite a few other reviews that go into great detail regarding this camp so I wont repeat that information. All I can say is that this camp is first rate and the customer service extraordinary. My husband and I came in with a small group and the staff knew everyones name from the very start! I would highly recommend this camp for your tiger hunting experiences.

Experience Bandhavgarh at Mahua Kothi Experience Bandhavgarh at Mahua Kothi

by dhariniu2017 on January 14, 2017

Beautiful place, superb service and amazing set up people make the whole experience exciting and beautiful. The forest is beautiful. You will enjoy the experience only if you have a wonderful naturalist to familiarize you with the topography and add meaning to everything that you see and hear.

Our First Indian Safari... Our First Indian Safari...

by nehallondon on January 6, 2017

Our very first Indian Safari experience was at Mahua Kothione of the Taj Safari properties. And we could not have asked for a better experience. The lodge itself is expertly run by Amit who is the manager in charge and his expert staff who remain true to the superb customer service that Taj properties are so well known for. We flew into Jabalpur from New Delhi where our transfer was waiting to take us to Bandhavgarh. Our driver knew of some kind of shortcut which meant our journey by road took only 3 hours and thanks to Amit we were able to catch the afternoon game drive on the same day . The last 10km of the drive to the lodge actually takes you through a bit of Bandhavgarh National Park where we are told the drivers occasionally see the Royal Bengal tiger crossing the road at night time. The staff at Mahua Kothi welcome you on arrival with their customary wave and you are taken to the main reception and dining area which is designed in the form of a bungalow with big windows opening up into a big balcony overlooking tall grass and the woods. This is the area where most meals are served and you meet before and after the game drives. It also has access to wifi and also a small koi pond. The latter kept our 3 year old daughter occupied with food given to her by the kitchen staff with which she could feed the fish. The decor at Mahua Kothi is what I would term as Indian-village-rustic-luxury-chic. We loved it. The rooms although built of mud/clay and wood have all the modern comforts discreetly hidden (Telephone, AC, Electric Blanket, Hot Water etc). Our room (No. 11) was one of the furthest away and with a great view. A bit of a trek with a child though and if you are a little nervous of walking down a trail at night in tiger country (albeit lit very beautifully with hurricane lanterns). But you can always request an escort to and from the rooms. And this I would advise at nights as wild animals and tigers do visit the property from time to time as it did on our last night when we unknowingly walked back with our 3 year old while a tiger was in the property. It added to the overall experience and excitement when we found out the next morning but I would have definitely been more careful if I was staying longer. Also suggest that you may want to request a room closer to the main area if you are travelling with children. The food was great and the Chefs were available to adjust to individual requirements. We had a wonderful outdoor buffet and tandoor dinner of multi national cuisine on New Year's Eve with open fire to keep us warm in an African boma style environment. This was preceded by a tribal dance by a bonfire accompanied by champagne cocktails. On another night we were treated to a rooftop dinner under a beautiful starlit sky. The chef was also kind enough to cater to the needs of our daughter in preparing certain types of food which kept her happy. Safari drives were conducted in the bigger Mahindra vehicles adapted and styled similar to the safari vehicles seen in Southern Africa. You are driven by a naturalist and forest guide. The naturalist like Kaartik, who accompanied us was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about ensuring each guest had a great experience. We managed to get 4 safari drives in the 2 nights that we were there in Zones 3, 2 and 1. They are all slightly different in terms of vegetation but amazing in their own ways. I was lucky to see many animals and birds including 3 big 20 month old tiger cubs crossing a road during the 1st morning drive of the new year in 2017 at Zone 1 (Tala). My first wild tiger sighting and what an experience it was. In end Dec and January be prepared for very cold mornings where layering up is highly recommended. Also please make sure you are aware about safari drive availability prior to making your booking as there are limited passes given out by the forest department and although the lodge will try and accommodate your needs in every way possible, you may want to get a guarantee that the number of drives you want are actually available prior to booking. Regarding sightings of the Majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, please note that it is not guaranteed and truly up to your luck and whether the tiger chooses to reveal itself when you are there. There were groups amongst us who saw tigers in each of their game drives and then there was us who saw Tigers briefly in just 1 out of 4 game drives and then others who did not see any at all. The thrill is also there in the tracking and listening for warning calls that announce to the jungle that the king is on the move. Having said that nothing beats being in the presence of this amazing animal. Overall an amazing 5 star experience made extra special due to the personal touch by Amit, Vishnu, Kaartik and the ever watchful Rama. A word of advise for those travelling from Delhi: double check your internal flight schedule from the day before you fly. We were booked to fly by Air India from Delhi to Jabalpur on the 30th of December but when we reached the airport for a 12:50pm flight, we were informed that the flight had already departed at 9am. We were not notified of this change in schedule prior to this despite Air India having our email address and our contact numbers. With no other flight options available that day we lost one night of a much long awaited safari with Air India taking no responsibility beyond booking us for the next morning flight. So do re-check your flight schedule the night before you fly to ensure you are aware of any last minute changes.

outstanding property outstanding property

by brat85 on December 31, 2016

This was our 3rd visit to the property . In todays world of different choices , the fact we chose to stay here for the 3rd time itself says a lot about the high standards the team at mahua kothi has set and maintained Safaris in the indian jungle in cold conditions ( we went in december ) can be quite trying , but coming back to Mahua kothi and having that warm ginger -honey-lemon drink or the lovely masala tea - couldnt have asked for something better We are vegetarians and the chef turned out some outstanding dishes for every meal that we had . The staff is impeccably mannered are attentive without being intrusive and their ability to remember the little things is absolutely fabulous A delightful place - stay there for a customised , high end safari experience - doesn't get much better than this A big thank you to Amit , Harsh , Om , Ramayan , bhola and the rest of the staff for a truly memorable experience !

Fantastic experience Fantastic experience

We managed to book this place at the last minute. We decided to do a road trip from Mumbai to Mahua Kothi... Right from the time we checked in to the time we left--5 days later.. the experience was just outstanding. Every single staff member is so courteous and helpful. Everyone under Amit's guidance was so wonderful to us.. and truly made our visit the most memorable. The head chef Ajit, butler Rajkumar were just at our beck and call each time.. they ensured that our son's wish was literally their command. The hotel has the most amazing rooms and they truly know how to entertain you every evening by arranging dinners at different locations on their property. And to add to it, we were taken care of by their naturalist Kartikeyan who took us around the property to show us around as well as took us for some wonderful safari rides.. and we were the luckiest ones to spot a tigress with 3 cubs! On the whole, it was a wonderful, relaxing and fantastic trip.. look forward to staying here again!
