I spent a good part of 2016 in Mathyoo. Work took me to Bengaluru in May 2016. Initially I chose to stay at Maythyoo as it was near my work place but stayed on for almost 9 months because I found it extremely homely and comfortable. It became a home away from home for 9 months.
What worked for me: Homely food, cooked up by the maverick cook Raju. Cleanliness and general efficiency managed by Siddhesh Gowda, supported by the friendly Deepankar and efficient Naazia. Dr Sarojini went out of her way to make my stay comfortable. She kept an eagle eye on the menu, making sure that Raju did not repeat the same dishes and when she suspected that I was getting home sick, she invited me to join her family for Christmas and the new years eve weekend!
The staff too was caring. Once when I chose to drop rice for chapatis at dinner, they seemed to infer that I had gone diabetic! They were ready to prepare a low carb, diabetes friendly diet for me and had called in a concerned Dr Sarojini to ascertain matters!!
Mathyoo couldn't have been located better. I loved taking long walks to Brigade road, Commercial street or a short cab ride to Koramangala or Indiranagar on weekends. Forum and Garuda Malls in the neighborhood for that quick shopping or catching the odd bollywood movie.
What could be better:
Laundry: While efficient in turnarounds, it could improve for cleaning efficiency and tracking clothing items. Early on, a few of my clothes found their way into the cupboards of other guests but this got sorted out with exclusive washing rounds.
Communication: A lot of guests come in expecting this to be a hotel. It is not. It is a very nice serviced apartment run by well meaning folks. The Manager should be more communicative. This will help to manage expectations and also bring out the character of the place.
The stay was extremely comfortable. The people are extremely friendly and caring. I got sick for a weekend, and they were available all the time and I was taken care of very nicely. If and when I come back, I'll definitely choose this place to stay.
I stayed at the Mathyoo Residential Suites for almost three months (May '16 - July '16). My workplace was near Richmond Circle and I had explored several places along Langford Road. Mathyoo, however, stuck out in one key aspect: hospitality. This place is not a hotel, it's a serviced apartment which provides its guests with a very homely experience. You can easily find hotels and better-looking serviced apartments in this price range. But if you're in Bangalore for a long stay and you want something like home, this is the place to be.
Dr. Sarojini and Mr. Siddesh are extremely hospitable and did everything possible to make me feel comfortable in a new city. I am not much of a breakfast person, but the caretakers (Nazia and Deepankar) made sure that I had enough food before leaving for work.
They provide all kind of services: washing, drying, ironing. breakfast, and lunch or dinner on order. The staff helped with all kinds of services. They would also clean my room every day (being a student, that is usually rare, haha). This place felt very safe and staff was extremely nice to me. Also, this place is in heart of Bangalore. It is very close to Koramangala, Church St / MG Road, Indiranagar, and Forum Mall. This is definitely a prime location in Bangalore. Bangalore is definitely a city that caters to the young population and it is very important to be in reach of these certain areas mentioned above.
The food was amazing as well. I used to have dinner (apart from breakfast) almost every day, and the cook (Raju) was very nice. He would cook all different kind of delicacies (North Indian food for me usually) with a little Kannada touch to it (I believe). They spoiled me with the large amounts of food they used to prepare for me every day.
The staff was very curious and interesting as well. I really enjoyed interacting with them and learning more about the local culture. Deepanker also helped me with some interesting tricks to survive in Bangalore. Interactions with other guests staying here was also an amazing experience. I enjoyed some really intellectual dinner table talks and even met some international students to befriend and hang out with!
To conclude, this was an amazing stay. I couldn't have hoped for anything better. I definitely look forward to staying here again in future. I would also recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a homely experience in Bangalore.
Some tips if you go on to stay here (took me few weeks to figure them out):
1) If you're using Uber/Ola: use Dr. Agarwals Hospital as pick up location, instead of Mathyoo. This would make sure that the driver takes Langford road and you don't have to deal with the traffic on Hosur Road.
2) Some important landmarks that would help delivery people get to Mathyoo: DaVita Care, Dr. Agarwals Hospital, State Bank of Mysore, Hercules Sports International (sports shop).
3) If you're going towards Richmond Circle, avoid taking Hosur Road and then G KS Thimayya Road. Take Berlie Street from Mathyoo and take the route from Nanjappa Circle. This would save *loads* of time and avoid traffic.
4) A lot of restaurant from Church St/ MG Road and Koramangala deliver here (very important for a student). :)
5) If you're traveling towards Koramangala, ask Uber driver to come to Berlie St (and not Hosur Road, refer to tip 1). If you're on Berlie St, you could take Langford Road and turn towards Koramangala from the traffic signal. Otherwise, you would have to take a U-turn on Hosur Road (somewhere near Chruch St) - wastes a lot of time.
Hope you enjoy your stay.
I booked this property (the 3 bedroom unit) for a weekend get together of my wife and her friends. It was a last minute booking and we almost entirely relied on the tripadvisor rating to book here. In my opinion this property is overrated.
For this price point (Rs9500/day) matching upscale 3-star hotels in the same area , one would expect a well maintained property with sufficient staff available to make guests comfortable. Instead what we found was a spacious property but with poor maintenance and inadequate staff.
The first problem we encountered was food. The cook had taken an early day off ,we checked in at around 7PM and were told that the only option was takeout from nearby restaurants and we had to contact them ourselves to order food. A tired guest cannot be expected to spend the next couple of hours hunting for a restaurant on a Friday evening when most of the good restaurants are busy and don't bother to answer the phone. Finally after two hours we got our food delivered by a frazzled delivery boy.
The next day we did notice the total absence of housekeeping staff. The apartment wasn't cleaned , the beds weren't done , the garbage was not emptied.
In the daylight we noticed that the sofas in the living room were covered with dust , the bathtub had stains , the kitchen was dirty and poorly equipped. One air conditioner and one of the water heaters didn't work properly.
Though the onsite bellboy Deepankar was extremely co-operative and the replacement lady cook (Nazim) who arrived the second day morning was good, there is only so much that a single person can do. This apartment requires additional part-time staff or work to be handed over to a professional service provider. .
This apartment is old and looks jaded. It requires a professional cleaning , refurbishment and professional management before it can reach the quality justifying it's price tag. .
We really enjoyed our stay at Mathyoo Residential Suites. We had book the penthouse suite, which was on the terrace, with gardens on 3 sides. Mr. Siddhesh was extremely helpful. We really appreciated the hospitality. The staff was very friendly. Location is quite central. The apartment was comfortable and had most of the amenities that are necessary. We stayed for a night on May 28th
