Pilgrimage to Bodhgaya Pilgrimage to Bodhgaya

by Wingwton on January 6, 2017

Excellent hotel to stay in considering Indian & intetnational standards. Service by all staff -reception (Dhamraj), restaurant waiters (Bikas, Om, etc), GM Mr Deepak, technical staff - plumbing, etc are all fantastic. They are also very grateful & appreciative that we have stayed at their hotel as it means continued wages to earn a decent living under their good & kind boss Mr Rahul. Such grateful staff who view us well is definitely unlike the service, thinking & attitude of hotel staff that i hv encountered during my 3 years posting in India especially in New Delhi who are usually haughty & try to overlord you as though i hv abused them before in our past lives & taking revenge. Such kindness in thought probably is the influence of Buddhism"s loving kindness teachings in Bodhgaya and i really like & respect such staff. It is not servitude that we r asking for but respect & compassion that we seek while we travel in one of the world's most difficult & challenging tourist destinations. I will certainly stay in Hotel Sujata when i next visit Bodhgaya in Bihar. All my earlier notions of a lawless & rough Bihar state being one of India's least developed states have been put to rest. Even the rickshaw/ cyclo & tuk tuk 3 wheeler drivers are friendly in comparison to some cities in india. The trick is respect & a smile when talking to anyone in Bihar for unlike other places in India they do reciprocate in kind and take pleasantries as weakness to be exploited. In any case, i stayed in the new wing and the rooms i stayed in and viewed were large, comfortable & the hot water works (winter). Except for the noisy creaking ceiling fans everything else works. As for the 3 meal package that i took up, it was worth every penny spent. No upset stomach. When in India, if u can pay a little more for better amenities; that extra bit will usually a hell lot of a differenxe between a pleasant passage to india or one that u may never wish to return to india ever again. For me, India is a land of extreme contrasts and full of contrafictions and paradoxes. Therein lies the mystical connotation of an Incredible India.

Polite stuff and good food Polite stuff and good food

Not all rooms are nice so you should try to get a room in the new part of the hotel. Stuff is very helpful and served food is good. As the breakfast buffet is not always suitable for western taste you might want to order a la carte. In Bodhgaya definitely one of the best choices since it is rather centrally located.

An Absolutely Wonderful Hotel in Bodh Gaya An Absolutely Wonderful Hotel in Bodh Gaya

by baweibel on November 25, 2016

Sujata Hotel was the third place I stayed during my recent trip to Bodh Gaya. The first was a decent place but too far from town and the second was a horrible experience. Fortunately, the third time was the charm. I really put Sujata Hotel to the test. Not only was I there during the demonetization crisis in India, I also arrived with a severe case of Delhi Belly that kept me flat on my back in bed for nearly a week. The caring staff bent over backward to help me every way they could, including allowing me to charge absolutely everything I needed to the room and then pay it by credit card when I left. Without this, I would not have been able to eat when I finally began to recover, as the ATM lines were too long and aggressive for me to handle in my weakened condition. And speaking of eating, everything I tried in their restaurant was excellent, right down to their delicious breakfast and lunch buffets. The wifi was the best I found in all of Bodh Gaya, and they are even in the process of upgrading that. Sujata is located on a side street, so the rooms are an oasis of serenity from the crazy, noisy main street, yet it is only a 10-minute walk to the famous Mahabodhi Temple and the 5th generation descendant of the Bodhi Tree beneath which Buddha was enlightened. If you are planning a visit to Bodh Gaya, I highly recommend this hotel.

Bad experience at Hotel Sujata,Bodhgaya Bad experience at Hotel Sujata,Bodhgaya

by hskruw on September 29, 2016

I am a Consultant Physician from Sri Lanka who occupied room 115 along with 2 associates (,a cousin and a batchmate ) from 15th to 17th September this year while on an 8 day pilgrimage. I had a very bad experience while there,Four hand picked beautiful sarees I purchased from Varanasi(,our previous destination) were stolen from my suitcase which was kept closed in our room ,I discovered the loss only once I returned to Sri Lanka on 17th afternoon.Other smaller items (a padlock belonging to my cousin,a tin of talcum powder of another lady in our group )also had been lost at this particular hotel only and not in the other five hotels we stayed at , I consider this an affront to the name of the great lady Sujatha of yore after whom this hotel is named and also to my own name ! This was a calculated theft. I called the hotel many times to report my loss and was told even after perusing the CCTV camera recordings they have no evidence of the sarees being stolen!. In addition at the buffet there were no tags to indicate what food item was placed in the dishes.Since I am intolerant of mushroom I had to keep on asking the chefs what was being served and noticed them to be indifferent and appear harassed.Getting hot water to drink after a meal was also a problem, having to wait long for it.

Nice hotel Nice hotel

It surpassed all my expectation, since the rooms and bathroom were amazingly clean and tidy. Restaurant service is also good with food taste being authentic. Its walking distant from the main temple. Staffs are courteous and helpful.wifi is complementary in lobby only.
