This hotel is second to none when it come to the vicinity of Maha Bodhi temple. It is just less than 3mins walk to the main compound of the sacred temple. Very convenient. It is a very old hotel, currently expanding/renovating another wing with newer rooms. Ask for the new wings. This hotel wall is also very thin hence it was very noisy cos any single chatters or sound from the corridor can easily be heard in the room in middle of the night. Service/attitude of the staffs are below average. One of the manager is very grouchy and not approachable at all. And wifi is not free. This is the most basic necessity nowadays. IT MUST BE INCLUDED. - Restaurant offers decent food. - hot shower avail in room. Overall, it is the superb location of this hotel that worth one staying. Do not expect too much else.

Disappointing Disappointing

Stayed in this hotel and it was so noisy from the traffic outside and the hotel staffs. Certain morning there was a morning call for some big group and the hotel staffs just went knocking the door and disturb the rest of the guests. Very inconsiderate. On one morning, they came knocking at my door mistaken my room as one of the "morning call room" and it was 3.30am in the morning. The toilet wasn't very clean and also smell of mould.. Price of a 5 star hotel in Gaya but service and room conditions wasn't good..

Hotel room is simple- a balcony faces the dusty road, toilet is fairly clean but difficult to get a hot shower at night or early morning, as the main switch gets turned off; lift is broken; Wifi only available in the room, connection slow. Breakfast consists of eggs, toast with jam / butter, tea/coffee/hot milk/small juice (pick one). We had a very rude waiter who slammed the basket of bread on the table the first morning, and a courteous one the next. We asked for hot chocolate, and they said no; I noticed other guests coming in and asking for the same, and they replied in the negative day after day. I thought that if it was such a popular item, management would put it on the menu. That about sums up the attitude of the management, which I got to experience first hand. I booked 3 rooms with one website for the first night weeks prior, and 3 rooms with another website for the second night 4 days prior to check-in. On checking-in, I informed Reception about the arrangement. On the second day at about 3 pm, when I returned to the hotel, staff descended on me demanding why I did not check out at noon. They did not believe I booked the second night. I had to go to my room to forward them the email. Within minutes, Reception called to ask why it was taking so long. I was summoned to the manager's office, and forced to wait while matter was resolved. They initially suspected I was making the booking in the room. However they were pleasant when the booking was confirmed.

I booked this hotel for its location close to the main temple, but the noise and pollution from the road spoiled the experience of staying here. My room was grubby, I don't think it was a problem with cleaning but dust and pollution from the road. I was on the 1st floor and I think the rooms higher up had less of a problem. It was a shame because I did like being able to see all the action in the main street, but I have asthma so not great. The management were helpful when the manager came on duty at 12 noon. Before that service at reception wasn't great. The rooms are basic and I didn't think the price was justified. The lift was useful for me. I didn't enjoy the food in the restaurant, although they did a good cold coffee.

I was there with a large group of people, the waitstaff were polite, kind and time efficient. There are excellent traditional curries on the menu with fantastic flavours. The sweet coconut curries were particularly good. Customer service and cleanliness was also quite good. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Terrible Terrible

We arrived 3 o'clock at night as our train was delayed. The receptionist told us they had no booking for us. Finally they decided to give us a room. The room was damp, smelly, rundown and did not have a window. The hallway was full of rubbish. We asked if they really charged 50 for a night. They did as, what they said '' decides about the price and there is nothing they could do. We work with ourselves and that's just not true. We decided not to stay there. The next day we received a mail from Tathagat saying we were noshow. So they did have a booking! Avoid this hotel at any cost!

Demo Trip Rooms on the sub street side ( right hand side if you face the hotel on the main street) seem to be better. Choose the higher floor room for better ventilation.

Demo Trip Staff told us there was wifi in the rooms but we could never get a connection. Ask to see rooms in the new part. The old part is along the main street and very noisy.
