Rangamati Tourist Lodge is located in prime area opposite West Bengal Govt Tourist Lodge. It is central spot in Bolpur and all facilities are within a short distance.
It is one of older generation Budget hotels, where lift was not compulsory..
Rooms are narrow. The premium room, we were offered, -- had a room of width only 9 ft.It is uncomfortable for those, who are used to a better travel experience.
The front side rooms are subjected to noise pollution throughout day and night, making it impossible to sleep due to electric horn of buses and trucks.
Linens used are very old and some are torn. Were told that management has taken action to replace the linen.we shifted to a backside room but the backside rooms had no view at all and we preferred to keep windows closed
Restaurant ambience is average and looking shabby, even food quality was not up to the mark.
On the positive side , the hotel is very clean and spotless. bedsheets and towels were changed daily.
Apart from Linen, some infrastructure are required to be updated to remain competitive against competition from newer hotels.
In short, this hotel with TV , A/C, attached bathroom and being centrally located may be suitable for budget conscious tourists but not for those ,seeking comfortable accommodation .
It was a decent experience during my stay there. The tariff is reasonable. I stayed in deluxe AC room. But the price of food is a bit high though. The behavior of the staff was decent. Rooms were clean and spacious.
13 15 Aug, a long weekend, to celebrate the same with office colleagues along with our 70th years of Independence Day, we decided to go to Santiniketan. About 164km from Kolkata, Santiniketan is a popular tourist spot. 11 adults & couple of kids are the members of this trip. Though it is a off-season but as this is a long weekend, we experienced a huge crowd. We did the advance booking for 4 rooms (3 double bed & 1 triple bed). We reached Bolpure around 11.30 am morning by KOAA-Haldibari super fast express (12363) and via toto reached our hotel RANGAMATI (Rs.100/- per toto). Instead of the person who is the in charge at reception, rest of the stuffs was good. They even helped us to carry the luggage to the rooms thru stairs (but didnt help when we checked out). We got rooms in the 2nd floor and this Hotel does not have any lift. Rooms are good and functionality of air condition machines are good as well. No water problem as well as for the drinking water concern, they have mineral water as well as filter water (regular). The ambiance of the restaurant is very good and the food quality is also good. But if you see the price, it is higher than average compare to its quantity. You can have veg Thali with multiple non-veg dishes. Next day we have tried our lunch in another restaurant, 9X9, though it is a multi-cuisine, but it is good in Chinese food with normal price rate. You can book cab also via Hotel or in outside also cabs are available with a bit low price rate. But if you want to hire toto then you need to know how to bargain as they will ask a huge and you need to reduce the same as per your capacity. There are not so many places to visit but if you are found of shopping then you have to visit Shonibarer Haat, the Saturday market. Although it is called so, you will find artisans selling their wares even on other days of the week. Buzzing with shouts for the best Kanthas, chic and ethnic jewellery, home decor items, Shanibarer Haat is just like another small market place, just off the main path. We found the prices a little on the higher side though, and wondered about the quality as well. You can visit Amar Kutir as well for shopping. Amar Kutir is a cooperative unit that produces leather goods, kantha stitched saris, bamboo crafts and batik at a reasonable price. Its leather-craft unit employs mostly women. It has one batik, a needlecraft unit and shola and lac crafts units. Under a Central government scheme, a craft development centre was opened in 1992 at Amar Kutir. In 1993, the Central government set up a hand-block printing training centre at Amar Kutir Complex. Kantha-stitch sarees made here cater to the demands in both national and international market. Other than shopping there are the most attraction places are Tagore's ashrama, Chattimtala, Rabindra Bhaban Museum, Kala Bhavan, China Bhavan, Sangeet bhavan, Prayer hall- Upasna Ghar. End of the day it is a great experience to feel Gram chara oei ranga matir poththe red path beyond my village.
I used to stay in Rangamati years back and then the service was very good but now it has detoriated. It has just became an ordinary hotel . if you are going to enjoy the air of santiniketan then there are some excellent resorts in sonajhuri, which you can book online. That will be the best or else there are many other hotels in bolpur.... try those. In rangamati you wont get how much you pay for.
tried to book the hotel for one A/C double bed room at the end of april and contacted with him and was confirmed by Mr. paul but at the time of depositing advance at their laketown office he refused to accept and every time tried to avoid me depite my several attempts the reasons best known to him only i believe after wards it gathered that many times even accepting advace they used to cancel the booking at fag end to blackmail the tourists so it is suggested friends dont go to this hotel without 100% confirm
