Great Ambience. Very Basic but Reliable and safe. Great Ambience. Very Basic but Reliable and safe.

I see mixed ratings for this place. Hence I think few doubts needs to be cleared who want to opt for this place as a traveller. Firstly, don't rely on the google map as the location for this place is slightly jumbled up. The name of this place is "Poushali Lodge" not "Hotel". Secondly, the expectation should be tuned as the price offered: Homestay < Lodge < Hotel < Resort. Yes, The comfort + money factor is better than than homestay and less than Hotel. And it is quiet apt in their service being a "Lodge". "a small house at the gates of a park or in the grounds of a large house, occupied by a gatekeeper, gardener, or other employee." Let us get into straight Pro and Cons: Pros: 1. Location is inside Shantiniketan viswa bharati campus. ( between amartya sen's house and kala bhavan) and left on the main campus road if you r going towards deer park from museum. 2. Daily morning supply of hand made liquid jaggery and date palm juice by local villagers. (arnd 8 am) 3. We missed it by whiskers, but saturday evening baul songs by local villagers organised by lodge owners. 4. Paid drop and pickup service to bolpur station. Sightseeing service by car. Toto stand is also nearby. 5. Pencil booking available for genuine case. 6. Homely food. 7. For dog lovers, the owner as two highly trained and well behaved dogs. Inspite being a phobic myself, these two cute giants were cute and harmless. 8. Very helpful owner. 9. Main tourist points in walkable vicinity. Cons: 1. Absence of geyser in the basic room. The other rooms have these facility. That said, they provide necessary room service. 2. Absent minded caretaker ( mostly due to ongoing rush and low man power). Verdict: Bang for buck. Highly Recommended.

Short Stay during the Poushmela rush period Short Stay during the Poushmela rush period

The location of the hotel is a major plus point. The food served was simple and nice. The people were courteous and good. There was musical programs organized in the evening - Baul one day & a fusion of sax plus Baul the other day. The intention of upgrading to a better experience was evident . Since we went during a rush period , price point wise it was not right to judge or compare. The amenities were very basic but clean . There is driver room facility available as well with a nominal charge .

Extremly Bad Experience - Extremly Bad Experience -

by SaptaBhai on December 14, 2016

Poushali Hotel is confused whether they should say themselves as Hotel or a Home Stay..The Hotel is very old and established way back in 60s . They have a new enclosure now with more rooms and 2 rooms outside which interestingly they called cottage..There are many things they need to look upon if they really looking forward to get better feedback... I know they have regular boarders who enjoy here but to get more new boarders you need to look into many things.. Only good thing which i like about this hotel is its location..It in inside Viswabharati Campus and you can walk along to Museum,Kalabhavan etc But here it ends the good part..Now i will tell the improvement areas 1. Only one person is managing the whole room service, although the person is doing his job very well but its natural he will miss things as he has so much to do 2. The rooms in so called cottage are very small probably 8X8 .and was not clean at all , there were cowwebs, the curtains were not clean, In one room water was not coming from toilet tap but who cares . They don't have jet spray in toilet and one room is without geyser which i agree they told me but to get a bucket of hot water take so much time that i myself took water from one room to another from my Geyser. 3.Now comes the Food part..They will not make according to your choice they will force you with their choice. The lunch we had on the first day was a disaster for us.All the things were very sweet even the chicken was very sweet . I understand each person have different taste but so sweet is not acceptable. and when we told them we love to eat spicy they told that they prepare for everyone so its difficult to add spice for one group..In the night they want us to have chili chicken again sweetening affair and very bad in taste. You don't have any restaurant nearby so you have to depend on them for food as it was very cold outside. The charges are also not less they were charging pretty high amount and one thing they don't have menu card as they claim they will prepare what you want so you are not sure what amount they will be charging with you and at the end you will have huge bills.. I was really surprised they do not give priority to their customer taste and do on their own 4. The rooms in the cottage do not have any bell facilities or telephone so in the night you need to bang their outside door and be on their mercy when they will open it. My room do not have water and in Chili night i went out asking for water banging their door for 10 mins and then someone appeared and did mercy on me providing water 5.They do not accept any cards and the bill they provide is completely hand written in their letter head without any Vat no.. They might say they are providing less room rent for this ..but I will not accept that Lastly I will again say they still will have guests coming as they have their own Guest base who come and stay with them regularly and might appreciate their Hotel but for me it was horrible experience . Not Worthy at all.. So please think twice before visiting here..Atleast I will never come here and will not suggest anyone to come Unless they take this feedback positively and act accordingly for their own good
