We arrived in October 2015 to stay for one night.
Strangely, there was NO ONE ELSE staying at the hotel then!
A little apprehensive, we walked in. They photocopied our passports, out driving licenses, our flight boarding passes... and then they went into a huddle.
And all this after booking on the phone, transferring the cash for one night's stay by bank transfer after talking to the "manager" on phone and confirming (and reconfirming!) our reservation.
Finally, after about a tense 20 minutes (after the "paperwork") and several whispered phone calls, we were allowed to check in.
Very basic. A double bed, two very soiled looking, used pillows.
The bed sheet had holes in it - a careless smoker.
The rickety chairs in the room look suspicious.
No matter WHAT you read on the hotel description, the hotel DOES NOT have central AC. We know because the AC inside the room was not working. After much discussions, the receptionist himself came and fixed/started up the AC. Our pleas to move us to another room fell on deaf ears. Apparently another room was not "ready". Considering there was no one else staying in the hotel at that time, this was ridiculous.
And this is the sole reason my wife & I have sworn a solemn oath NEVER to visit the hotel again.
The plumbing in the bathrooms has been done by a genius.
The waste from your basin very nicely disappears into the wall behind. But wait! about six feet down the same wall, it pours everything BACK into the bathroom floor! How wonderful is that! The drainage in the bathroom is poor, so what do we have? Every bit of spit, snot, toothpaste drool and other miscellaneous bits and pieces from your face mouth and nose will swirl around your ankles for a few minutes before (finally!) disappearing down the drain!!
There isn't any.
No restaurant, no tea coffee, nothing.
If you ask for something, someone (probably the receptionist) will dash down to the local hole-in-the-wall and get something back for you.
You risk cholera with every bite.
And lastly, the Parking.
We parked our car in the hotel "parking". Our driver was give a room (we paid Rs. 1000/- for his room) and we told the receptionist and the guard that we have to leave at 0300 hours. Yes, 3 AM in the morning.
To everyone we could spot.
We wake up to find there was no receptionist, the gates of the hotel was barred with a collapsible gate, and the night guard knew nothing about our departure.
The place our car was parked, was locked in by huge iron gates, and the key to the gate lock was not available. The guard made it out that it was our fault that he was put to such an inconvenience. The receptionist arrived on the scene half an hour later, in a vest and shorts, and he did not have the keys either. And we were getting late for our flight.
Long story short, it took us 45 tense minutes for someone to locate the keys, walk 10 minutes to the parking lot with our luggage, locate the car and be on our way.
The hotel is nearby railway station and bus station in a three feet wide lane. I knocked the gate at 3.00am. The secuirity gaurd told that check in could be done between 7.30am to 9.00pm only. So, one should visit the hotel between this time only.
We made a reservation but when we arrived they could not find our reservation. They showed us a room, we liked it, then the staff made a call to the "sir" and they said no .
Basically they don't want foreigners in the hotel .
If your from overseas give it a miss .
There's nothing exemplary about this hotel. The rooms are decent and food is also okay. The only advantage is its location, it is situated very near to the market place and Karjon gate. But the hotel highly over-priced. Room rate per night is 2K+ which is very high for an average hotel in a small town like Burdwan.
During the weekend business in bardwan,I stayed here for a night & in fact, liked the hotel for the facilities it provides. My Room was in the 3rd floor & it has a LCD TV,AC,good furniture etcwith hot and cold water. The upkeep and cleanliness is goodand has the tranquility in the middle of chaos of city.
