Had gone with a bunch of friends and had a blast. The view from the hotel is very very good. Can see deep into the valley. The balconys on different floors give a very good view.
The food is very good and gives a homely taste to it. An ideal place for dinner after the tiresome travels on the roads of Himachal Pradesh.
The staff is very courteous and heloful.
Bathrooms could be better though. Ample parking and the driver was taken care of well.
We visited last year on 28th May, with my 2 angles.
The hotel rooms were neat & clean, well maintained. The staff of very helping & the food quality was really good. Tried booking via Hotels.com and the booking confirmed without paying anything. Got little suspicious & called the hotel directly. The staff gave me the number of the owner & when I spoke with him, he confirmed that such bookings are a real problem & he wouldn't have made the booking as these sites does not pay afterwords or pay very very late.
I spoke with him further & he spoke with a warm welcome.
He asked me to share my plan & details of travelers & said he will offer a good deal & to best of my surprise he offered a real better deal. Was so pleased to see such an offer when initially he said that the rates are increased, but when we spoke further he gave us a good deal, and when we reached the hotel the deal proved to be the best.
One improvement area for this, on the lower floor (Yes the hotel reception is on top of the valley & floors go below) when you stand looking at the valley it appears great, but as you look down all you see is garbage thrown. Make an attempt to restrict your guests not to litter & get this spot cleared. It is spoiling the beauty.
This is budget hotel with a big heart. For those looking for more than a clean place to stay in, piping hot and tasty North Indian style food, the most obliging staff I've met in a very long time and of course a beautiful view of pine carpeted hills and a magnificent sunset, then this is not where you want to stay.
The hotel is 3 kms from the tiny one-street town of Chail, tucked away in little hamlet, The best thing about this hotel is its location - overlooking rolling mountains of pines, tiny hamlets in the valley below and an absolutely quiet environment. The next best thing is the staff - forever smiling, responding to every request immediately and assisting guests with useful local information. Since we were on half-board (a good idea if you are in and around Chail, with its limited food place options), we were delivered hot, tasty and wholesome North Indian breakfasts and dinners in our room for two days and had one buffet breakfast and one buffet lunch. I'll say they are better at cooking individual meals over buffets. The room was small, clean, and the linen crisp and changed every day. As this hotel is not centrally heated, they provided us with heat blowers that kept the room toasty when the ambient temperature dipped to 4 degrees C at night. They provide an electric kettle and a complimentary tea and coffee service, but no hair dryer or iron. The bathroom is a decent size and clean, but hot water is through a heater only - therefore best to have a 15 minute gap between two people showering.
There is sunny little terrace for eating breakfast, lunch, tea etc. If you want to just be by yourselves take a walk up or down the road - beautiful pine forests, trekking paths and a small greenhouse with beautiful blooms. Check with the reception - they arrange for drops and pickups from the one-street town as well as a half day trip to all the site-seeing points here in Chail.
And yes, Grand Sunset lives up to its name - watch a dramatic sunset from the comfort of your room.
A special mention goes out to our steward Narendra, the most charming and friendly man in the property.
Guys, the pictures of the room shown are nowhere close to the actual room. We booked a premium deluxe room for new year eve! Had the greatest disappointment of the year after a 12 hrs long journey.
Below average hotel, not worth the price we booked it for. I have not had even a single meal so far, so cannot comment. What I saw in first glance was a small room with dirty bedsheets, tube light not working, no heater in room! I have never seen a hotel which welcome its guest like this.
See, my biggest disappointment was differences in the pictures and the actual room. When someone books a trip, he/she comes with some expectations and the first of it is a cozy room. Just show what you have. Why faking?? 0/10 for this.
I visted Chail recently and had the opportunity to stay in Hotel Grand Sunset It was a bit late in evening so we decided to stay in this hotel located just before on the way to Chail . The hotel has a very good parking space. it is very convenient for car travellers. The visiting places like the cricket ground and the Palace and the local market are in the vicinity of the Hotel.
The hotel has a nice, spacious lobby with courteous reception desk. The room had very good view of the scenic beauty outside. It was spacious, clean and reasonably priced.. The staffs too were cooperative and polite and did help to make the stay comfortable. The hotel has a restaurant with good, tasty food. Breakfast was complimentary and had a variety of tasty items. Recreation Facilities of Carrom and Table Tennis available.
We happened to go to the Terrace. From terrace view of the valley and surroundings was breathtaking. The view of the sunset from the terrace was really grand, fully justifying the name of the hotel THE GRAND SUNSET.
As the Hotel is just before Chail and lot of tourist influx,it is better to book in advance either on phone or internet to avoid disappointment.
Overall it was nice and pleasant stay in Hotel Grand Sunset,
I recommended it for all single , group or family visitors
