This was my second visit to Nijaguna Residency, a resort hotel in the small town of Chamrajnagar. My previous visit was around six years back, and it was the excellent stay at that time which prompted me to make another visit. We were coming back after a very hectic long week end, so much so we decided that a break was required on the journey back to Bangalore. Our previous stay reminded us that Nijaguna Residency had a calm and serene ambience, and a good children's park as well.
I reached by late afternoon, and the check in procedure was done quickly. Within five minutes we were ushered into a good room on the ground floor. The room was spacious, had a silent yet powerful air conditioner and an intercom. The TV had a good collection of channels, but I really did not check whether all the regional language channels were available. Nijaguna Residency is said to be suited for board meetings and conferences, but surprisingly I found that they did not have a working internet connection (or Wi-Fi) which can be used by the guests. My Airtel 4G dongle came to the rescue here. The bath room was neat and clean and had running hot water available all the time we stayed there. Each room also has a small balcony/varendah as well. But with the recent changes introduced, I don't know how much beneficial this would be for the guests.
As expected, my four year old daughter immediately took a liking to the children's park and so we spent quite a lot of the evening hours out doors. Swings, slides, shaking ducks all kept my daughter quite happy. The restaurant is right next to the park, and is really spacious. The food menu how ever seemed to be a bit small, many of the items listed in the menu were not available when asked for. But for the tired traveller who may be interested in a drink or two, Nijaguna Residency also have the usual collection of liquor available. Breakfast is complimentary; and once again the options were limited. Most of the items were south Indian cuisine (Idlis, Vadas, Dosas, Sambhar & Chutney), and bread, butter, jam and boiled eggs were the other options. But to give the benefit of doubt; most of the guests seemed to be from southern India, so the menu could have been decided based on this.
Nijaguna Residency would get full marks from me on the aspects of infrastructure, ambience and cleanliness. They are placed at a good location, and the entire property is very pleasing to the eye. But when it comes to any activity which has human involvement, there were issues. The check in & check out process may be the two activities which was done in real quick time, and the staff involved were courteous and helpful. I could understand that the whole place is run by a very thin line of staff, and this was making a negative impact on the services.
The restaurant seems to have a bare minimum staff strength, so the process of order taking and delivering the items was taking time. So much so, we actually made a list of all items we wanted and passed it onto the steward the moment he came into take the order. For breakfast; coffee & tea were served on paper cups which looked a bit odd. Because in other similar places, good porcelain cups & saucers are the standard. Our room had a small boiler jug, cups and saucer; but what was missing were the other provisions to make a cup of coffee or tea. I had to call up the room service/reception five times to get my share of tea-bags, milk powder and sugar sachettes. It was finally delivered very late in the night, before we called it "lights off". Nijaguna Residency, also do NOT offer room service for food & beverages. So if any guest wants to have a late evening dinner or morning breakfast leisurely at the balcony/varendah, please forget it. This facility was available during our first visit to Nijaguna Residency.
I would still recommend this place to the road travelers, for this is perhaps the best option available at Chamrajnagar at the moment. The Nijaguna group also have opened up similar establishments at Gundlupet, which seems to be poorer in service quality. The ambiance, and the comforts offered at Nijaguna Residency, Chamrajnagar is still quite good.
Well if you are passing chamrajnagar to any of the destinations to Bandipur, Wayanad, sulatanbattery, Mysuru then this is for sure the best stopover place for lunch/dinner or a cup of tea. This well maintained property is our favourite stopover place which has beautiful lawn, a small kidzy play area and good restaurant. This was our 3rd visit to this place via to Wayanad. On our every visit kids always enjoyed playing on the lawn, swing and slides. The restaurant is slightly over priced but considering the environment, ambience and the quality of the food that becomes negligible. Lemon chicken and baby corn are our kids favourite starters and believe me or not they prepare awesome Rasam. They do also have a decent swimming pool believe is allowed only for the staying guests. When we travelled from Coimbatore to Wayanad via Chamrajnagar this very place had always given us good relaxing time. Love to stopover in the trips to come !!!
Its really a fantastic place to go, The property is well maintained and it is very much near by the town. They also have a concept based restaurant inside which provides good food. Overall a wonderful experience. It's the place to relieve all your stress. Will recommend 100% for all my family and friends
It is our favorite stopover for dinner/breakfast for almost all our drives down south with our band of roadtrippers. The place serves no-frills breakfast which is hot and done mostly when you order. The chutney deserves a special mention and so does the service. Dinners again is good and the taste is highly palatable too. The central dinning room is around the garden and the roof is quite high which gives you sufficient air. The place is dimly lit for my fancies and might not be to the liking of others but a lot of friends liked it so no sweat. They serve alcohol and beers so anybody who wants to a drink are not going to be disappointed. Breakfast was served in their new block which houses the restaurant and again this is clean and hygienically maintained so is the wash rooms which is primarily the reason all our drives have the pit-stop planned at this hotel.
Rooms are big and well maintained. The pool and other facilities are decent. The restaurant attached Serves good food although it is slightly expensive. The staff are courteous. K gudi and B R Hills are about 48 kms drive from this hotel. Overall a great experience. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway from Bangalore.
