I presumed with the name like Mountview it would have some view of the Mountains but unfortunately I didnt see any from the hotel. The hotel is located in a peaceful area (but everything seemed peaceful in Chandigarh). There were a coffee shop, florist, beauty salon, ATMs, etc, right outside the hotel which you could walk too. The hotel was surrounded by beautiful lawns and well cared for flowers. The lobby was huge and beautiful. Unfortunately, the receptionist was amazingly rude and possibly never heard the word "customer service." For a 5 star, one would at least expect a smile from the front end staff specially when reservations were made in advance and paid for. Throughout my stay the reception staff though changed shifts remained exceptionally rude and indifferent. I asked them if there were any calls and messages for me and the answer was an impolite no when in fact I had been receiving numerous calls. I had people waiting to meet me at the lobby and was not informed. I had a car waiting on the grounds and the reception did not let me know the driver had arrived. Fortunately the other staff were very helpful and polite. The food at the restuarants is better than anywhere else in Chandigarh. Service is slow but except for the reception staff polite. The room was clean and big, tastefully done but unfortunately did not have a view and was at the back of the hotel which I later realised was a boon since the front rooms face the lawns which are used for marriages and there is a lot of noise there. Unfortunately my room wasnt spared of the noise. If not the loud noises from the marriage functions, there was staff banging out nails from wooden boxes right outside my window!!! There were cockroaches in the room!!! My husband had one run right over his hand while on the bed. I found one in the bath and it was the the most distasteful and ugly thing to happen in a five star hotel. This hotel badly needs pest control and customer care training. We would have asked for a room change or left but we were there for a short stay and a wedding and had less time to argue with unfriendly front end staff. There was just two five star hotels in Chandigarh so unless you cannot find accommodation at the other one only then risk this hotel.
