I am from Mumbai I got an chance to visit chennai and stay in westin it was really an superb place to stay with superb class of hospitality. I was there fr three night, rooms were really spacious and comfortable. The hotel located was really nice from where we can go fr shopping easily. Best part of my stay was food and service of the hotel it was really fantastic. I just loved the breakfast which had lots of variety with yummy fud and service was outstanding Mr Kapoor was really fantastic with great knowledge he was really helpful whenever I was in need and it's really great to have such a great person in the organisation. Thank u so much westin for making my stay fantastic and comfortable and special thanks to Mr Kapoor see u soon.
I do not understand how it is possible for this hotel to get so many "excellent" ratings. The rooms would need a renovation. The carpet is worn-out, the towels and the bed linen are overused. When we wanted to draw in the curtain, one part came off. The glass door which separates the bathroom (and the toilet) from the room did not close properly. The wardrobe is not functional. There are three hangers and one shelf placed way too high. I had to keep my clothes in the suitcase, which was a hassle. The safe is big enough, though, and an iron with an ironing board is provided. The lights in the bathroom are bad.The water is hot enough and the water pressure is fine. There is a shower and a bath tub. The very basic hair dryer is in the drawer under the sink, plugged in behind the drawer so it is very hard to dry your hair. I wonder whose idea was that? A bald man perhaps? On a scale from 1 to 5 the comfort level of the bed is 3. The whole room stinks; air freshener is provided upon request. The restaurant next to the lobby looks pretty but the food is ordinary, which is a sin in India. The dishes taste bland, they lack spices, soul and inspiration. We ordered biryani, which was the saddest, most depressed biryani we had ever had. It was literally crying for spices. The butter naan bread was not salty enough, the butter was tasteless. We also tried cheese in tomato gravy, which was again tasteless, the cheese was not firm enough. Does the chef suffer from burn-out syndrome? The plates should be changed because they are shabby. The spa also badly needs a touch-up. In the women`s locker, the water drained slowly in the shower, which made the shower`s floor disgustingly slimy. There is a sauna and a steam bath, both are ok. Although the gym is small, there are 3 treadmills, 2 elliptic trainers, 2 stationary bikes, a set of dum bells and 2 or 3 basic machines. There is an outside pool with lounge beds. It wants to look luxurious but it is not. Towels and bottled water are provided in the spa and in the gym. I did not use the pool so I don`t know about that. Across the street from the hotel there is a relatively big grocery store. A big shopping mall (Phoenix Market City) is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. There is an ATM right across the street, which did not work but the next one is about 300 metres to the left. The staff is nice and very polite, and they really try to help if you have any problem. This is a hotel which wants to radiate the feeling of a top 5 star hotel, which makes it even more obvious that it is not.
Well situated hotel, not far away from airport and close to shopping centers.
A spa, good food, a nice buffet everything within reach.
Mosquitos are also there so prepare wits some mosquito oil and mosquito lamp in the hotel
The Westin Chennai Velachery is a great hotel.
Room are clean, we have a lot of choice for restaurants.
All was extremely well organized and the staff was friendly and helpful.
My special thanks go to Vidhya and Laxmikant !
The abbreviated version: Excellent customer service, great pool area, several great restaurant options, for a pool gym...pretty darn good, nice modern rooms, I highly recommend getting a massage in the spa, and the location is good.
Now for the rest of the story...
This is my first ever review on Trip Advisor, but I felt like it was more than due based on my experiences staying here at the Westin Hotel Velachery in Chennai, India. I have been in Chennai, on business, for several weeks now and I have received the best service, bar none, than any other hotel I have stayed in regardless of the country or how many stars it received.
To begin with, the Westin Hotel is a nice hotel with several great restaurant options, nice rooms, a bar, Executive Lounge, great pool, gym, spa etc. However, what I think really sets the hotel apart is that it has the friendliest hotel staff of any of the hotels I have stayed in around the worldbar none. I have been missing home something fierce, but they continue to do their best to make me feel at home.
At breakfast I get treated with smiles and good mornings by name from the hostess Jansi as well as the wait staff. As I walk in, Varun already knows my order and begins to make my omelet with sliced Chipotle peppers on the side. Meanwhile Kitu, Rajeev, or one of the other wait staff, promptly delivers my latte without being asked. They know my routine and deliver with the utmost professionalism and courtesy. They do this all while asking me how I am doing and if there is anything else at all they could do for me. At some point, Thanga or Karthikeyan (Chefs) will come around to chat and ensure that everything meets expectations (always does).
The same courtesy and friendliness is shown in every restaurant in the Westin. For example, when eating all you can eat dim sum or sushi (on the appropriate night) at "5 senses" where Sai provides excellent service as he brings me far more food than I can ever handle. There are also the times when I order room service and Shankar pleasantly takes my order while Satya delivers it with a huge grin and a few friendly words.
Vidhya and Thangamani are the staff that primarily takes care my room. Knowing I am away from family, Vidhya makes it a point to surprise me with towel animals every few days to cheer me up and they also brought flowers every couple of days as well! My room is always well kept and they always ask how I'm doing and if there is anything that they can do for me.
One of my favorite places to go in the evenings is the Executive Lounge on the 9th floor staffed by Anusha, Sunil, Sirius and Ram. As soon as I walk in, they approach with a warm welcome with smiles on their faces. They do a great job at making you feel relaxed and happy after a long days work with a drink and a bite to eat.
The other places in the hotel I frequent are the gym, the spa, and the pool. For a hotel gym it is pretty well stocked with a Smith Machine, around 400 lbs of free weights, several different barbells, dumbbells up to 50lbs and several nautilus and cardio machines. I am able to maintain my workouts and even do Olympic lifts at a hotel. The guys staffing the gym are also very friendly and will give you a spot, or help you in any way they can.
The girls at the spa may seem small but I'll tell you they know what they are doing and have strength in those petite hands. I think Beth is the smallest one, but she does a great job working all of the knots out of my back from stress and workouts.
Oh yeah! I was missing my family like crazy on my birthday when I heard a knock at my door and the housekeeping staff brought me flowers and sang me Happy Birthday. Then, that evening, the staff in the Executive Lounge surprised me with a cake and sang for me as well. How many hotels go through all of that extra effort for their guests without prompting?
Not only do the staff at the Westin make my stay more enjoyable and help me to overcome depressing times when I miss my family...they have become friends. I look forward to seeing and talking to them and finding out about how their day is going and what is going on in their lives as well.
So the next time you're in Chennai, I highly recommend staying at the Westin Hotel Velachery. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how warm and friendly a big hotel can really be and you'll also enjoy all of the great amenities as well!
