Cherai beach resorts was an experience in itself. Like to recommned to all travelers.
They allotted us good room.
Our experience was great in Cherai. We would recommend this resort for other travellers.
Rooms were very good with all the basic facilities and I can see the wonderful backwater from the room it was amazing. The hotel is located front of the sea beach. Restaurant of the hotel serves very good food. I would certainly recommend this hotel to other travelers.

Visited with my family in the starting of March this year, Stayed two bedroom doctor's villa. complete wooden structure based on Kerala architecture. The resort is having number of mango trees, coconut trees etc. Swimming pool is nicely maintained. Of course insects are there, caught a big spider in a glass, hahaha. But if you like to feel peace and greenery, its the better place. Food was just Ok.
Booked here for 1 night. This is a huge property and has seen better days, Unfortunately, now it is crying out for better maintenance. Property has an excellent location though with backwaters on one side and beautiful cherai beach on the other. Rooms are very average. They have created an artificial pond that resembles back waters and their so called luxury villas are on this water body. I am sure it was beautiful at some point, unfortunately, due to lack of maintenance, all water bodies inside the resort are stinking and probably breeding mosquitoso. Can't sit on the patio outside. Their best room is sunset villa. Good thing about this place is the buffet lunch and dinner. This is decently priced and provides both local & north Indian options. Ayurveda centre is big. Staff here was good and well trained. Again, like other areas, this place has lost its sheen & needs an uplift. And to my utter surprise, they use a big pressure cooker to generate steam for steam bath!!! Not sure if this is a common practice across kerala..but I found a cooker burning next to me very uncomfortable !!!
We booked this hotel due to the Ayurvedic Massages on offer but unfortunately did not get to try as they were fully booked - I contacted the hotel before arriving asking if we could make a booking and they advised that there was no need as we can book on arrival - when we got there, we were told they are fully booked - However, we did get amazing massages at the resort next door called Club Mahindra Cherai. Our room was the doctors villa deluxe. The room was neat and spacious but needs a good cleaning incl the walls. The bathroom was neat. The aircon worked well. The buffet lunch was not appetizing so we ate at the restaurant next door - Club Mahindra Cherai. There is no free wifi in the rooms, only in the reception area. The backwater has a pungent smell and was stagnant. The best attraction for this hotel is the beach across the road from it.
The ambience of the resort is very nice, with comfortable cottages scattered across well maintained gardens. Backwaters border the resort and a walk in the gardens along the backwaters is a very pleasant experience. Our cottages also had sit-outs facing the backwaters. One of the benefits of booking Sunrise Villas. From here we had a good view of the sunrise. The resort also has a beautiful swimming pool but with the sea just across, we did not use the pool. The beach is just across the road from the resort with a decent sandy beach. It is recommended that swimming be done about a couple of hundred meters to the right where there are life guards present. The resort itself has a good restaurant serving both veg and non-veg delicacies. The buffet could do with some improvement in service. However, there is no shortage of eateries along the beach with good ambience. Lilliput restaurant is one we visited a few times. To those who are keen on pampering their tastebuds, I would definitely recommend the numerous wayside nameless kitchens on or along the beach. Overall - a very enjoyable experience.
It takes great talent to build a resort on the backwaters such that most rooms do not have any view of the water, but almost all of them have the stench from the stagnant water. It also takes great effort to keep washing towels for years in harsh detergents to give them the texture of emery paper. There is no wifi, except for a very anaemic signal in the reception area. The food is so-so. The items on the buffet are predictable - it is the same theme every day, with some variations in the items. On the plus side, the aircon is good, the room is fairly free of mozzies and insects, and the place is quiet except for the cacophony of crows in the morning. What is really good about the place is the staff - sincere, dedicated, friendly and very helpful.
