Quaint Heritage boutique hotel Quaint Heritage boutique hotel

by 47woodenshoes on February 20, 2017

If you like heritage and excellent food and service this is it. Staff are excellent, helpful and accommodate your every need. The room was spacious and clean but bathroom was open to the outside if you pulled up the shower blind. We had a balcony but was too low to see anything (room 2008). The curtains were a bit too narrow to provide total privacy. Internet was spotty and we couldn't find any English TV news. Pool was delightful as was the dining under theatres with a 2 local musicians. The chef is excellent and even had some Indonesian Dutch dishes included. Birds and hallways were noisy. We did not notice the bicycles until we left! Nothing was mentioned about them. The beach and Chinese fishermen nets were just a safe and easy 5 minute walk. Many local joggers on the beach walkway in the morning. It is not a 5 star, but definitely a unique and historic hotel to stay at and we recommend.

Excellent location - most western of the hotels we stayed in. Excellent location - most western of the hotels we stayed in.

There is a naval theme running throughout which is stylish. The bedrooms and bathrooms were first class. The restaurant is towards novelle cuisine. The pool is small but adequate. We lay in the water and watched red kites and bee-catchers.

Nice hotel in Fort Kochi Nice hotel in Fort Kochi

My wife and I stayed at the Eighth Bastion for two nights. We had a lovely room overlooking the courtyard and swimming pool area. The staff are all polite and efficient. We had dinner the first night which was tasty, and breakfast was buffet style with a choice of eggs to order. The swimming pool was very clean although a little small. Overall a great place to stay in the fort Kochin area.

Elegant Design with Outstanding Service Elegant Design with Outstanding Service

by LylaGreen on February 12, 2017

I loved everything about this hotel. The design is a skillful contemporary nod to Fort Cochin's Dutch heritage with elegant touches of modern India. Small delights for the eye are scattered throughout including the tiny ceramic cream pots in the bathroom, the opulently tiled bathtub, and the foyer's blue and white porcelain tiles. The breakfast is a delicious spread of Indian and Western options including their own in-house line of breads. Our balcony overlooked the pool and dining area in the palm-strewn inner courtyard and the small scale of the hotel makes it a real oasis from the heat, dirt and noise of the street. What really made the hotel for us was the outstanding staff who went out of their way to make sure our every need was met and welcomed us back from our day trips like returning friends. Our demands were particularly challenging on the last day of our stay. We had checked out of our room but needed to hang around the hotel for the day and we requested frequent access to our bags. Akhil, the front office manager and Joseph were unrelentingly cheerful and accommodating and we were very grateful for their courtesy and kindness. All the staff shared this attitude, which turned our good stay into a great one.

A fantastic small hotel, only recently refurbished with contemporary designed and furnished rooms and common areas. A really good restaurant and in an ideal location, just a 10 minute walk along the beach promenade into old Dutch colonial centre. One of the top 3 or 4 places to stay in Cochin.
