Hotel Fort House in Fort Kochi is closest to an ideal facility. It is a beautiful heritage property that is neither loud nor annoyingly exotic. The best feature of the property is that it is cool, casual and yet classy. Efficient services are there but nobody breathes down your neck nor do they ever try to sell an extra feature or two. The admin staff at the desk are alert and dignified. No over-selling of anything here. Spacious rooms with beautiful wooden and cane furnitures and sublime lighting. Specially the bathroom is unusually spacious - in the style of South Indian family homes. The toiletries were very basic but of good quality organic stuff. The in-house restaurant next to the sea is exquisite. Though the service is slow the food has good home cuisine taste. The restaurant service staff needs more training in order to serve international guests. The hotel has nice compound with old trees to walk around. That makes the hotel looks more like an institution than a service hotel. I stayed in the hotel with some friends to attend the Kochi Art Biennial. The location is between the market area in Mattncheryy and Fort Kochi jetty. It is in walking distance to all important sites - synagogue, basilica, palaces, spice market, jew town and sea beach. I have been to this picturesque coastal town many times earlier. But this trip remained memorable because of Hotel Fort House.
