Grand Hotel

I’m back to this iconic hotel after a few years.I liked the superior room offered to me, super spacious, and old decor ambience, clean and adequately filled with toiletries wash room etc was quite luxurious. I’m a veteran traveler and could easily pick chaff from the rice. The restaurant was too good,again the decor,food quality made the difference. Their sea food is quite known to many. The staffs are too nice. Adequate parking available. Highly recommended.

The Grand Hotel restaurant in Kochi, also known as Grand Pavilion, is widely regarded as one of the best to enjoy ethnic foods. It boasts a good ambience and an upmarket, clean environment that is complemented by excellent service. The restaurant is well-known for its authentic Kerala cuisine, including standout dishes like fish curry meals and prawn mango curry. I appreciate the restaurant’s spacious and clean setting, friendly staff, and the diverse menu that also includes Chinese and other international dishes. There is also a decent free car parking inside the hotel. Due to these positive factors this restaurant is often crowded.

Food: I ordered the Chicken Biriyani, which came in a very generous portion. However, the experience was underwhelming. It felt more like ghee rice paired with a basic chicken curry rather than a true biriyani. It lacked the depth of flavor, aroma, and the distinct punch you'd typically expect from a biriyani, especially at a place with such a reputation. Ambience: For a hotel that's often spoken of as one of the legendary spots in Kochi, the ambience was a letdown. While the antique, old-school restaurant vibe has its charm, the lingering smell of cigarettes in the dining area really took away from the experience. It didn’t feel as fresh or welcoming as it should. Customer Service: The service was probably the saving grace here. The staff were attentive, polite, and did their best to make the dining experience smooth.

The room was surprisingly spacious. Perhaps it's because I got a handicap equipped room which in this case made the bathroom large and very comfortable. My room had a balcony so I was able to pop outside and check the temperature and see the local goings on. I ordered the shrimp and local naan bread crew room service and both were delicious.
