Excellent place and wonderful host Excellent place and wonderful host

by wuw on March 16, 2017

Basil and his wife have set up an ideal home-stay. It was a lovely location and they were excellent hosts. He organised transport from the airport and then a good driver to take us sightseeing in Cochin and for the various places we wanted to go. Breakfast was good and a plentyful selection. We also had a very nice fish dinner cooked by Basil's wife. Everything we needed at a very reasonable price. Keep up the good work Basil!

Cozy stay by the river Cozy stay by the river

We had a great time at the riverside cottage. The breakfast provided was tasty and filling. The location is a bit tricky, but Basin uncle helps with cabs and autos at any time of the day. He also gave beautiful recommendations for sightseeing places, kathakali shows and places to eat.

Peaceful and very comfortable home stay Peaceful and very comfortable home stay

Our stay at this property was most enjoyable. Basil had arranged for a taxi pick up at the air port which was invaluable. The welcome we received on arrival was exceptional despite our late arrival a light meal was waiting for use. Our room which was ensuite was in a semi detached bungalow in the grounds of Basil and Mary's home they also have x2 rooms available in their house for guests. The room we occupied had ready made beds, tea and coffee making facility's, AC and also a fan, the ensuite shower room which had a western toilet and hot shower was spotless with towels provided. In the morning you step out on to your veranda and a short walk through a gate takes you to the waters edge. Breakfast which is local Keralan cuisine is delicious and prepared by Mary are different every morning. We stayed from the 05 to the 09.01.17 and Basil made suggestions of places for us to visit and booked for us to see a Kathakali theater performance which was very interesting. Another trip that Basil booked was on the back waters, the first part of the day was on a open boat, we saw Kingfishers and other types of birds, we then had a short trip by bus, we had a delicious lunch when we arrived at our next destination, then transferred to another boat and went out on to the lakes. both of these trips are worth doing. There was an art show on in the town which we also went to see which was interesting if a tad unusual. There are quite a few interesting buildings and churches to see in Cochin and the Folk Museum and the Hill Palace are definitely worth a visit. I can not fault the hospitality, help and advise that we received on our visit. Basil and Mary made us feel very welcome and as part of the family. One pointer. Make sure that you have one of the home stay cards with you as some of the tuk tuk drivers struggled on occasion to find Mylanthra House, makes it interesting though!! If you get to Fatima Hospital you are not a million miles away, and there are always plenty of people around to ask. My partner and I have no hesitation in recommending Riverside Heritage Homestay.

Friendly and helpful people on a peaceful property Friendly and helpful people on a peaceful property

I spent 2 nights at Riverside Heritage Homestay and I just loved it. Despite of being around 20-30 minutes on a tuk-tuk from Fort Kochi, Basil and his wife made me feel at their house as a good friend. They were very helpful and warm, and the property is absolutely peaceful, confortable and pretty. I highly recommend this accomodation to anyone.

Amazing serene place by the backwaters Amazing serene place by the backwaters

This is a home stay offered by Mr.Basil a very kind hearted person who understands all your needs and offers 100% peace of mind. The rooms are new with a rustic charm by the backwaters, offers a very serene and tranquil space for quality family time. The free breakfast is tasty and great. Mr.Basil is a walking encyclopedia of many activities in and around Kochi and is a seasoned traveler himself. He can arrange a house boat, or a boat ride thru the paddy fields or a kathakali show all by the drop of a hat. Great place, will definitely visit again.
