Friendly and helpful people on a peaceful property Friendly and helpful people on a peaceful property

I spent 2 nights at Riverside Heritage Homestay and I just loved it. Despite of being around 20-30 minutes on a tuk-tuk from Fort Kochi, Basil and his wife made me feel at their house as a good friend. They were very helpful and warm, and the property is absolutely peaceful, confortable and pretty. I highly recommend this accomodation to anyone.

Amazing serene place by the backwaters Amazing serene place by the backwaters

This is a home stay offered by Mr.Basil a very kind hearted person who understands all your needs and offers 100% peace of mind. The rooms are new with a rustic charm by the backwaters, offers a very serene and tranquil space for quality family time. The free breakfast is tasty and great. Mr.Basil is a walking encyclopedia of many activities in and around Kochi and is a seasoned traveler himself. He can arrange a house boat, or a boat ride thru the paddy fields or a kathakali show all by the drop of a hat. Great place, will definitely visit again.

A peaceful and comfortable stay on the river. A peaceful and comfortable stay on the river.

The Riverside Heritage Homestay has got only 4 rooms - 2 in the main house of the owners - Mary and Basel Mylanthara - and 2 on the river front. With A/c and an attached bath, both the rooms are well maintained, provided with spotlessly clean bed linen and bath towels. Set within their ample property, with large number of trees and the waterfront outside, the cool breeze blowing all day, is an added bonus to the variety of birds you can see. The breakfast - local, Kerala dishes - cooked by Mary herself, is a treat. A very many thanks to Mary and Basel for making our 2 day stay enjpyable.

A very perfect place to stay if you love to stay away from noisy and commercial usual center of the city. Next to the river and was very nice. Mr& Mrs Basil were very courteous and helpful in organizing things for us. Had nice home grown Bananas and Mangoes. A Delicious Idiappam and coconut need to mention. Mr.Johnson, Autorickshaw took care of logistics.Overall a heritage home stay in Cochin Thank You Regards, Prasanba

My brother and I have been traveling around southern India and stayed with Basil and Annie for three nights. We arranged an airport pickup through Basil and that worked well. We stayed in the separate accommodation behind the main house in a twin room that was very clean, well screened and with AC. It is a short walk to the lake and like most every place near water there are mozzies around, sort of like love & marriage and a horse & carriage, they go together. But all good travelers carry repellant has a part of their standard travel kit, don't they, so that was not really an issue. The Homestay is in the quieter part of town, but that is what we were looking for at that point - a bit of respite from the frenetic activity of the main town. Auto rickshaws were plentiful - at the intersection at the corner of Basil's road. But we wanted to make sure we did more than our 10,000 steps a day a walked a bit and chatted (?) to the locals. There is only one place to eat nearby - the Hotel Methalum, it had a good local menu and a pool you could use for Rs 300 (plus tax, of course...). That is any easy walk or a Rs 30 tuk tuk. We were the beneficiaries of Basil's organizing skills (did the things other reviewers talk about) and Annie's cooking skills (part of the trip is to eat local and we had her Kerala breakfasts every day). Like a lot of India Basil and Annie are a couple of fascinating contrasts - clearly born around the time of Independence (in the initial wave of the Indian baby boomers :) ). They have witnessed huge changes and are now players in the internet economy with Trip Advisor and AirBnB entries, yet they still hold to some of the more traditional Indian customs. We have a fascinating discussion with Basil about arranged marriages. We had a memorable stay and would recommend the Riverside Heritage Homestay to any traveler. With our batteries recharged we left Basil and Annie for the delights of the overnight bus to Madurai and the next stage of our travels.
