We stayed my husband and I for 7nights ! It was a wonderful experience They have only 10 rooms, excellent breakfast and a perfect swimming pool. The location in the center of Fort Kochi but in a very quiet street, a place of heaven in India!
They also a little restaurant for lunch and diner and snacks all the day.
Thank you to Reshna and the staff of the restaurant for our wonderful stay here.
We totally recommend this place
After a long flight from London it was great to finally arrive and to receive such a warm welcome.
The rooms are spacious, and there is a lovely patio area with lush planting and a pool....a lovely spot to have breakfast....fantastic dosa's!
A great place to retreat to after exploring bustling Kochi!
The Tea Bungalow is well situated for easy access to many of the attractions and restaurants that Fort Kochi has to offer. The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel at home. Our room was adequate for a two night stay with the hot water system rather hit and miss but this is not uncommon in India. Breakfast was fine albeit with a limited selection. The one drawback is that the small swimming pool and its surround is advertised on the pavement outside as being open to the public for a fee. Thus on returning in mid afternoon from a hot trip, we found it had been taken over by a large group which rendered it difficult to even put a toe in the water. A real downer on an otherwise pleasant stay.
On arriving in Kerala we spent our first couple of nights at tea bungalows. Good size rooms and A great base as easy walking distance to all of the main sites and attractions. Restaurant had a good menu and food was delicious and great value for money. Nice pool area where breakfast is served. The staff at the hotel were really friendly .
This was our fourth visit to the Tea Bungalow. When we first visited in 2008, we are impressed at every level. Unfortunately, this property has not maintained the standards that made it the go to place in Fort Kochi.
In the positive, the staff did their utmost to look after our group of 11. Especially Vineet was very attentive and always helpful. And the rooms, especially the bathrooms, were clean and had all the necessary toiletries including a hair dryer.
What was missing was a lack of coordination and planning. We arrived late due to flight delays, and consequently being stuck in heavy traffic. We had no access to lunch and upon arrival at the hotel, we were hungry. The hotel knowing that we were late, and having access to our driver, made no attempts or arrangements to reach us regarding dinner requirments. We had to place our dinner order upon arrival, which was going to take time to prepare. So we asked for snacks such as peanuts or papadums, along with cold beer to tide us over. We were told there were no snacks per se available, and that they no longer had a license for beer or alcohol sales. When asked if they could make a plate or two of fries, that was also not possible.
Ultimately, the kitchen did make us some hot snacks and a decent meal was served in due time, but not without much consternation and chaos.
The next morning, none of us (6 rooms) had hot water. We were told it should work but ultimately, it did not. Breakfast was good with fresh ingredients however, you must allow extra time as with minimal staff, it took more time to get the meals served as ordered. If you are not on a tight time line, then the food is worth waiting for as it was tasty and plentiful. And again, the service was attentive, as the staff did all they could with what resources the management provided them with.
For these reasons, I would raise an orange flag for someone wishing to stay at this property. While it has had many awards, all well deserved, it is our opinion that they will need to clean up their act in order to maintain that status.
Certainly, should the management provide the appropriate leadership and resources, I see no reason why The Tea Bungalow cannot regain its original charm and status as the place to stay in when visiting Fort Kochi.
