It is surrounded by water with breathtaking views of the tranquil backwaters, the city and the bustling commercial centre is only a few kilometers away. Also enjoyed the awesome sea food spread at the Rice Boat. Service was good.

This hotel goes the extra mile and more. The service and accommodation are of a high standard. We enjoyed several meals from a choice of 4 restaurants and they were all delicious. Breakfast buffet was delicious. They offer a complimentary high tea each afternoon as well as a complimentary cruise on the port and also a cultural show. The location was lovely, even if access to shops and markets etc is a little drive away. Our room had a gabulous view on 2 sides of the Arabian Sea. The staff make each guest feel like VIPs. Well done!

The Taj brand has an excellent reputation, and our previous experiences at these hotels filled us with confidence that we were going to have a fantastic Christmas in Kerrala. The staff are most definitely the strong point of this hotel, very friendly, extremely helpful and polite and proud of the service they provide. The hotel is well appointed with a variety of restaurants (Rice Boat particularly first class), the room was very comfortable and well maintained by housekeeping and the facilities were available at reasonable times. Upon arrival we were informed that the bar closes in 10 minutes, Kerrala law means that the sale of alcohol past 10pm is prohibited, not the hotels fault but maybe they should be more pro-active in letting guests know. The hotel has a colonial feel to it and maybe some features require updating without losing the character, e.g. some of the carpeting. A well maintained gymnasium is available 24 hrs if required and the swimming pool would benefit from a clean, however, pleasant enough and the staff were very receptive to the guests requirements. We attended the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner and the Christmas Day Brunch, both enjoyable functions. There is also a daily complimentary boat trip that takes you out to the immediate sights such as the chinese fishing nets and surrounding islands, a nice touch. Additionally advertised as a cultural show there is a lady dancer who takes you through the background of the classic indian dance, long enough without becoming repetitive and alright for passing away 20 minutes pre-dinner. We utilised the travel services provided by the hotel concierge and found the service and efficiency of the two trips we had to be very good. The house boat trip was very good, a very relaxing and enjoyable way to spend the day, however, the village trip that is exclusive to the Taj hotels was outstanding. Peter our guide and the boatman took us around the island and through the narrow canals that was simply brilliant. Peter has developed the tour over the years and with the assistance of the island inhabitants we also got to see around the local houses, produce rope from the coconut, interact with the locals and try some of the local drinks. Overall this was a very good way to spend Christmas week away from home, the drinking laws and issues with the currency are outside the control of the hotel, however, the bar (only one for the whole hotel) service could be slow, even down to getting the bill. We had a slight problem on Boxing Day when the breakfast service was poor followed up by a reservation issue in the evening at the BBQ, however, the General Manager and his staff were very quickly on top of the matter and we never had a repeat experience all week. Thank you to all the staff at the hotel for a very enjoyable experience.

The hotel is a very small yet very classy and elegant property. The location is awsome. We sat on their wooden dock for hours checking out different container carriers load and unload onto the port. We took their complementary boat ride as well.very nice hotel. We actually drove in our car from Goa to kochi and goofed up while our onward journey, so when asked their duty manager guided us properly without any hesitation. At this hotel we met some of the most warm and caring staff. Great hotel.

This is a late response as this was for a stay in August 2012. Our stay here was amazing, we had our daughter who was 23 months at the time and she still remembers the teddy bear, umbrella and ice cream she received upon checking in. The staff, including the head chef spoke to her and cooked her special pasta dishes. It's not a modern hotel but a classic luxury hotel. I am yet to experience the same level of customer service in my travels in the last 5 years. If the service is still the same I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed as family of four with 2 teenage sons. Our flights were changed to early in the morning so we arrived at 9 am very tired from our flight and to our surprise and relief our rooms were ready! The property is a lovely colonial style building which was built in 1935. It is a lovely location on the waterfront. Our rooms were in the heritage section and were well appointed and spacious. Our rooms were also connecting. The breakfast very nice with a choice of Indian and western foods. The juice bar and fresh smoothies were very good. There is an afternoon tea at 5pm just prior to the sunset cruise at 5.30pm. The 45 min cruise is a lovely way to see around the water and over to Vypin Island, the Chinese fishing nets and Fort Cochin. We enjoyed spending time sitting by the waterfront watching all the ships/boats/ferries going past. We enjoyed using the lovely pool and my son enjoyed using the well appointed gym. We caught the local ferry to Fort Cochin. It is a short walk to Embarkation Point to catch it. When you catch the ferry back it stops at a different point on the opposite side but is still only about a 500m walk back to the hotel (head to the left when you get off) We dined at the hotel in the evenings and all the food was delicious. The service is of a very high standard . Highly recommended and we would like very much to return one day.
