As the name suggests this resort is WILD yet WONDERFUL. Wanted to clarify that WILD has a positive connotation. When you are travelling to a place like Corbett, I am sure you are not looking for a typical concrete holiday resort which you find in abundance everywhere else.
Camp River Wild is a forest resort in true sense with all the modern amenities that you would be looking forHot water yes, Heater yes, Coffee Maker yes, Comfortable Bed yes. What more do you want.
Now to describe the resort and what comes along with it in terms of experience, here are my views:
We travelled during Christmas (2017) holidays and chose this place as our place of stay. We were a group of four families with kids and three young musketeers15 members in total. CRW has 6 beautifully done wooden cottages and we as a group booked the entire place.
Camp River Wild is 23 kms from Ramnagar in a small hamlet called Mohann. We were greeted by Puran from CRW at the Mohann Forest Naka (check post) and he guided us from there to the resort. The approach to the resort is through dry river bed.the approach is adventurous and scenic. Need to drive slowly and carefully to avoid big rocks on the river bed. Even a small car can reach the resort safely so dont worry if you dont drive a SUV. One of our colleague drove his Maruti Swift very easily through the river bed.
Now coming to the resort, the place is built over 4-5 acres of land with beautiful view of mountain and jungle around it. With 6 cottages and a dining hall you are left with wide open space to enjoy the nature. Nicely done lawn area has hammocks hung around various corners and seating arrangements (modhras) all around the open area. After claustrophobic urban/city life we couldnt have asked for anything better. Open spacelush green surrounding..sound of the river Kosi flowing close by..clean air to breathe (Air Quality Index must be at its best)..and then topped by world class HOSPITALITY.
Apart from the physical infrastructure and nature, Camp River Wild scores 10/10 when it comes to the food and service. Home food is what you crave for when you are away from your home and thats exactly what you get at Camp River Wild. Varied choice of food served hot and the great part is that during our 3 day stay, we never got a repeat dish served. Every meal was YUM. Best part, you are not forced to have your meal at a pre-defined time. Just to corroborate this with an example, on the Christmas Eve we had our dinner at 11:30pm and trust me even that late the food was warm and tasty and the service staff on their feet serving us the food in our plate. Hats off.
The most memorable part of our trip was the picnic (lunch) arranged by team of Camp River Wild, 23 kms ahead of Mohann . This place was in complete wilderness on a ridge overlooking the green valley with beautiful view of river Kosi from there. While we reached the spot along with our Man-Friday Puran, the resort made arrangement for food to be delivered in their Gypsy at the picnic site. And again the food served there in the wild was Yum and Warm. We as a group were floored by the service extended by the staff and we as group remember and talk about this picnic day even today.
This review will be incomplete without talking about Mrs. & Mr. Ansari.the property owner. I have yet to come across a host like them. During your stay they will make you feel like family member and not as a guest. You should not miss taking some valuable GYAN (knowledge) on forest and wild life from Mr. Ansari. Along with his extensive knowledge on wildlife he is an avid photographer, which is exhibited in all the cottages and the dining area.
At the time of departure Mrs. Ansari saw us off by handing over yummy cake for each car, as a parting gift. This gesture was extremely touching for all of us. We left with a heavy heart with a pledge to visit the place again..very soon.
Any-one visiting Corbett in future, I will highly recommend this place. You need to experience it to believe it. Trust me.
After a lot of research, we had booked Camp River Wild for a 2 night stay in the beginning of November 2017. The main reason behind selecting this over myriad other lavish properties was the fact that this place promised seclusion from the urban madness and acquaintance with nature.
Well, Camp River Wild delivered..and in grand style....while we were the only occupants during our stay, we were not denied any of the provisions they have....I shall use parenthesis in describing the experience..here it goes...
the rocking little ride over the pebbly river bed of an emaciated Kosi...the wooden cottages adequately interspersed by lawns and maintained vegetation.... the childish attempt at angling.....the most delicious meals ever....chatter of birds all around....the view of the grasslands against the backdrop of the Kumaoni hills....the bonfire and the rich conversations with Mr. Ansari on Tiger, Corbett, culture, politics , etc.........the early morning hike following a meek trail through the jungle in search of birds....the joy in roaming around the shaded lawns of the resort with my camera, looking up and catching glimpses of the most beautiful little birds, frolicking in the branches......
I liked it and my family loved it...we did not need to put on the TV for even once during our stay....the staff was courteous, eager to help...and the cook had blessed hands.....
Thank you Satish, Umesh, Puran, Rajender and the rest......and special thank to Mr. Ansari for maintaining such a nice place and for his time,,,,,
Highly recommended for the nature lovers....
Shaanti is what you get over there , situated at the banks of dry river , water is about 200 meters away from the property. Staff is kind and humble. They never say no for anything. Owner stays over there only . Resort have 6 cottages in total and each cottage have there own privacy so that you dont get disturbed or disturb anyone. Food is homemade you get tawa chapati instead of tandoor which is plus point. Buffet includes 3 veg meals , 1 non veg meal , 1 dal , rice and roti.
Bathroom had some smell which went off after a while.
Cottages can be more clean , i noticed some spider web.
Non- veg was really average , inform your chef to work over it.
Property is huge and need more care.
Overall, this is a gem in corbett , if you are looking for concrete infrastructure , games , pools and luxury them m sure you wont like it. Nature lovers go for it.
Thank you very much for your kind service.
Beautiful resort on the banks of river Kosi. The huts are tastefully decorated and there is ample space between all the units affording a lot of privacy. With only six huts The place is free of typical tamasha of resorts around Jim Corbett- no movie show, games etc. Also, chances of running in a corporate group on picnic are also low, thus ensuring tranquillity and solitude. It's an ideal place for birding and walks along the floodplains of Kosi.
The staff to guest ration is high, ensuring high standard of service, food is tasty and although menu is fixed, the staff is more than willing to catering for specific requirements. In short a ideal gateway to enjoy with family and close friends and to connect with nature
First of all let me tell you about the owners of this sprawling piece of land; Mr A.G.Ansari and his family. Educated, courteous and chilled out. The staff is extremely helpful in ways we did not expect. The location is lovely to say the least. The rooms are spacious and has an interesting decor; mostly made up of wood and bamboo. There are window A/Cs and ceiling fans, the bathroom/toilet was clean and well maintained.
The food was nothing to complain about. The evenings were pleasant with all the lights on and the cool breeze. Its also very close to the Jim Corbett National park.with a view of the Shivalik foothills and a completely dried up Kosi river(at this time) in close proximity.
