On deciding to visit Corbett National Park, I tried to find accommodation at Dhikala. The official website is horrendous and I realised that without contacts I was not going to get either accommodation or even visit permits easily. It was then I got on to TripAdvisor and look for accommodation. Reading thru reviews I decided on Camp Riverwild. Boy, am I glad I did!
Even before I left home I communicated with Mr Ansari and he was most helpful, and patiently answered all my questions and addressed my issues.
The property is on the banks of River Kosi, and has plenty of open spaces, with good number of trees - by itself it is a birders delight.
Mr Ansari helped fix up jeeps for all our safaris. Mr Pooran helped us with all arrangements and, on an occasion when out car wouldnt start, as we headed out for the Dhikala Canter ride, immediately atranged a Gypsy to take us to the gate.
I cannot say enough about the food, and service expertly handled by the ever smiling Rajesh. They were also kind enough to pack us some delicious sandwiches as we drove back to Delhi, to take our flight home.
I had some delightful conversations with Mr Ansari, a keen wildlifer and consevationist.
I am sure that this will not be my last visit to CRW. If at all, our only complaint is that the food was so good that we all hogged, and need serious work outs to shed the kgs we added in the 4 days.
I recommend CRW unconditionally to anyone wanting to visit Corbett National Park.
Thank you Mr Ansari, and crew!
Staying in Camp Riverwild will surely make you feel not going back from where you came from. The place has Zen. You will forget about the stress while you take a deep breath lying in the hammock, soaking the winter sun.
The smiling staff will take good care of you.
The vegetables are sourced locally. The mouth watering very ending lavish spread is to die for.
Rooms have the right amount of comfort with a view to a hill filled with trees. In the night sit around the bonfire and enjoy the company of Ansari's the owners of this beautiful 6 hut property.
The only small issue is the ugly resort next to door called Kabila.
Camp RiverWild is not a just a stay-at place. It's a dream of a family that's given everything to wildlife conservation. And that shows in the way the whole place has been put together. A piece of land that's big enough for a 100 rooms has only 6 aesthetically designed cottages. So make sure you have the number saved in speed dial.
Now the over all experience:
Food- I can drive to this place from Delhi for just a meal. The food is really that good.
Staff : The most hospitable and sweet people you'll see. Their Manager, Pooran, will do everything to arrange whatever it is you need. Say it, and you'll have it.
The place: It's what a place inside a jungle should be. Let's just say the noisiest things here, are the birds. Unless of course, a tiger decides to roar from the other side of the river. But don't let that make you lock yourself in the room. There is power fencing.
The stories ( a very important part of the jungle) : Try and see if you can spend a little time with Mr and Mrs Ansari (the names behind the magic of Camp RiverWild), they know the jungle and its animals better than most.
This place has become my second home. And i would personally like to thank Mr and Mrs Ansari for keeping this place so warm, calm, jungle-like and pet friendly. It makes the distance of 300 kms seem like 3.
We have been to this place 3 times with different groups over the last couple of years. This is a place which will take you closer to nature.
The wooden cottages are large and are equipped with everything you require. The staff is very very helpful and the food is delicious. We had all our meals at the property itself. They helped us organize the safari and made extra effort to help us spot the wild animals.
This is the perfect place if you need to get away from city life for a couple of days!
A team is only as good as its leader. We will come back to this later.
Located in a calm village 20km upward of Ramnagar on the riverbed in a quaint village. Reaching here itself is an adventure as you drive through the riverbed having encounters with Jackals, deers and other animals. This is as exclusive as it gets with only 6 solo bunglows solidy built on stillts and wooden floor and thatched roofs. All very tastefully done with a super comfy bed, hot water, Ac, heater, Lcd tv etc. Food is delicious and served up exclusively hot and fresh, they dont follow a buffet system which lends a homely feel to the service. The resort has enough open and green spaces for relaxing and hammocks all over with daily bonfire in winters.
The location Mohaan is just besides the elephant corridor with a lot of wildlife movement around the resort. You may consider going on a drive around the resort and have your own little safari. Also the resort is fenced all across with light electric fencing to keep wild animals away at night and to keep you safe while maintaining the thrill qoutient.
Now coming back to the opening statement, it all boils down to how the service is delivered and this is where all the difference lies. Mrs and Mr. Ansari who are wildlife experts and been working since years with authorities for the local wildlife conservation also live in this very property and are involved in evey little detail. This makes all the difference, Mr Ansari is a really helpful person and shares wonderful experiences which he has had working here over the years. This gesture alone doubles your excitement about visiting this place. Needless to say all the staff is super warm and eager to help.
Go for this one is you want to keep things simple, exclusive, calm and WILD. Im sold for life.
