A colonial style bungalow with lovely views of the valley. The hotel is between Gandhi Chowk and Subhash Chowk - a 10 min walk. You need to walk down about 70-80 steps down from the road to the hotel. So keep this in mind. Overall the place is clean and well maintained, but could do with some sprucing. Food is North Indian and was amazing (omlettes, parathas, finger chips ...).
Overall a homely place and very good value for money.
It is a heritage property converted in to budget hotel. Rooms are neat and clean. Manager Mr Joginder is a great host. He makes sure that you are fully satisfied with the service and food. You can have your morning tea or Dinner looking at the valley in the open sit out.
Food is amazing they serve hot food. Room service is excellent once you ring the bell within 1 minute their staff will arrive. They also serve tea/ coffee/ breakfast in the room. Different types of parathas and omelette as per your choice. GO for 1st floor bigger room with Valley view, it has a separate sit out area which includes Sofa and table.
It's a heritage building became hotel later. Location is great. one can enjoy the great Valley view sitting on the lawn. With neat and clean rooms and bathroom it's offer a basic and homely stay. the food quality is very good.
I really liked this Heritage Hotel. Placed in an amazing location, just a little away from the taxi stand, ensuring a better tranquility. As it is a heritage hotel and not much refurnished, some furniture are old. The room was very clean neatly arranged. And the best thing is the service, Mr Joginder had the amazing will & attitude to help, I have not come across such hospitality at any other place.
Please go to the place, if you want:
* A peaceful place * Nice Hospitality * Like Heritage places
Please do not go, if you have:
* Expectation of a 4* accommodation * A party loving big group * Do not appreciate heritage places.
We stayed at Hotel Crags for 3 nights during out stay at Dalhousie and would not go there again not because of anything else but just because its so run down that you don't feel good staying there.
Although the room service is good, people are helpful, location is excellent, its a far cry from a pleasurable stay you expect at the tourism hub of Dalhousie. We stayed at their Room No. 8, which is a private cottage of the Hotel, with an nice balcony sit out overlooking the Dalhousie Valley
We reached here after a long drive from Amritsar and it was well past noon, however the room did not even have a fan and the weather was quite hot , so it was kind of uncomfortable. The weather is always pleasant there i believe but fan is a basic necessity for a hotel room.
The room has a big bed, and attached powder room with an extra single bed, a huge clean bathroom with water heater.
The maintenance is very poor, everything needs a makeover, right from the room carpet to the bed, the sofa, the linen, the rooms, the mattress, the bathroom.
They have an old style box TV, they have a bell and not phone to call the reception. You have to walk down a few steps to reach the room and even few more steps to reach the reception. They have an open terrace in front of the reception with a great view, however that again is quire run down.
The hotel location is good, its just 5 mins walking from the main market places of Dalhousie, 4-5 mins walk from Subhash Chowk and 8-10 mins walk to Gandhi Chowk (Mall Road).
They have room service and will serve breakfast and food in your room.
Hotel does not have its own parking , however you can park at Subhash Chowk and walk down.
One of the night when we were staying there, we experienced a terrible thunderstorm, with terrible thunder, lightening and hailstorm and rain, the electricity also went out and there was a complete dark out, that was some scary experience of the unpredictable hill station weather.
One can wonder how beautiful this place would have been when it would be in its prime but now it seriously needs a complete face lift. I pray that the management spruces up this once upon a time would have been wonderful property so that it gets its glory back. Till such a time, this is definitely not worth a second visit.
