The suite room was not cleaned properly. Staffs used to take long time to serve the food in the room. The food was horrible in taste of the restaurant. It was below average hotel.

Spent New Year's Weekend Here Spent New Year's Weekend Here

by twomartinilunch on March 22, 2017

We spent a month traveling In India, Northern India, from the Pakistani border to Kolkata and the Sunderbans. We would travel like mad men, a different city/hotel for four or five days and then down time. We spent several days here including New Year's Eve/Day. We were treated royally! We arrived late on a Thursday, after a 23-hour road trip from Varanasi. We had wanted to overnight train, did not work, then to fly, cancelled due to fog so our third and last option was hire a car and drive. It was the road trip from hell, almost a post-apocalyptic version of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. But the staff of Dekeling Resort at Hawk Nest welcomed us and took care of everything. They unloaded our luggage and delivered it to our rooms. And shortly after our arrival the six of us were eating an amazing dinner with a roaring fire in the fireplace. So cozy and relaxing. Our room was comfortable, with a nice shower. We ordered a breakfast every morning in the dining room and had a leisurely time enjoying it - with Darjeeling tea refills! Laundry done and beautifully folded when returned. Our transportation requests were taken care of - actually a hotel driver would pick you up in the town, when you called or take you where you wanted to go. And it was just far enough out-of-town to be amazing quiet. Wonderful views of the Himalayas in the distance and the morning we left it was so clear you could see them glowing! I would tell anyone to stay here. It was wonderful

Excellent view of the Kanchenjunga since we were lucky :) Excellent view of the Kanchenjunga since we were lucky :)

We were allotted the log cabin in the entrance of the hotel which had a fantastic view of the mountain and what a sight it was to wake up to the mountain. We were lucky as we woke up and spent our breakfast with the breathtaking view of Kanchenjunga every single day. It was a spectacular experience. About the hotel : Service: it is mostly run by a family, I think as they were very accomodating for us. We drove in around 6 Pm and they called us to find out where we were so that our food will be ready as we had our kids. They went out of the way to accomodate for our kids food - whether it is milk or bread or roti or rice - we were very happy. Room : It is a log cabin with open windows looking at the mountain and one big King bed and a nice cozy bathroom. room was well maintained and stocked up well. Views : They had an open courtyard where you could sit and enjoy the warmth of the sun and see Kanchenjunga. Since it was October, we could enjoy all those things. Food: We went to the hotel at 6PM and hot rotis, daal and rice and potato curry was served for us. It was just simple homemade food but it was delicious and it was great on a cold evening. Breakfast : pretty much bread and lots of butter with nice coffee. They also had pooris for breakfast and the kids were in seventh heaven :) Transportation : They arranged for a local guy to drive us around for a very reasonable price and the referral was very good. Disadvantages : Location is far from the marketplace.Walking back was not an option as it was a major climb. So, we needed a car to go around everywhere. Once you get back to the hotel, you pretty much cannot leave. At the last minute, they did ask for cash payment which we did not have and for that we had to go to the main hotel and try the credit card several times before it went through. That was little inconvenient. We had a wonderful time here.

Very Good Property, a little isolated, not organised for meals Very Good Property, a little isolated, not organised for meals

The hotel is a lovely property with a fantastic view of the town below and the mountains in front (unfortunately we were fogged in throughout our stay, but the pictures told all). The rooms in the new wing are clean and well kept and very comfortable. The wall mounted plate heaters and mirror heaters are a good way to heat the room and bathroom. The owner and his lady were courteous and helpful in every way. Being a bit isolated, they provide a shuttle vehicle which drops to and picks up from their own Dekeling Hotel near the Mall. There is no functioning in restaurant on the property. Meals are prepared against order place at least 3 to 4 hours in advance. A standard breakfast did come within a reasonable time. The staff are not professional but are very helpful and courteous. Check out can be a challenge, as credit card checkouts are done at the Dekeling Hotel in town. We checked out the evening prior to our departure date as we were leaving early. If you make your own food arrangements or have outside in town, the Resort is a nice place to stay with a grand view of what you go to see in Darjeeling - Kanchenjunga. Service etc. is not a strong point. When asked why the service was so disorganised, the owner gave the excuse of the staff being busy preparing for a wedding reception there a week away. But going by earlier reviews here, the same situation prevailed.

Dr Yuden was kind enough to invite us to this beautiful resort on the 8th of March for a wedding in her family.Simply loved the view and the rooms. The Tibetian dances and food served was great. I think this is a great place to stay in Darjeeling.

Visited you 11 th Dec 2016 Could not stay with you but you were our first choice in Darjeeling. Decided to visit anyhow. Wanted to see the Heritage rooms with wood panelling and original fire places. Was not disappointed. Also spent time sitting on the stairs by the portrate of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. That experience meant much to me. That was not enough but as unofficial guests you made us lunch and we sat on the amazing terrace. What generosity of Spirit. The whole experience was wonderful just looking over Darjeeling into the valley , over the tea estates to Mt . Kanchenzonga and beyond towards Tibet which is significant. WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. A thousand ' Thank you 's.'Judy Coleman and Kate. Someone will return for sure.
