Stayed here for one night (and I am glad it was not more). Hotel is old English style with colonial charm and thats the only good thing about it or not. This hotel was not only disappointing but infuriating in its laxness - whoever the manager is, they have little understanding of how to run such a property. Had we not pre-paid, we would have moved to the Windamere or another property. The hotel literally takes you back to the time where being an Indian will successfully enable you to be treated poorly by the hotel staff and the waiters. It is like paying a premium to be treated like an unwelcome guest. There are absolutely no views from hotel and the lush green garden they show on their website is just a misleading green patch. Rooms are decently spacious but the walls are thin!! Staircases are squeaky and it gets a little noisy sometimes. No surprises if a knock on someone elses door could feel like yours. Although the room had huge windows all around, but the view was just a high wall, which was about 8-10 feet away from the windows. All you could look at was this wet grey stone wall all around with some wall creepers of course. The bed linen was very old and therefore didn't look fresh though it was probably clean but surely well used. Bathrooms were clean although hot water was a problem. Never enough hot water to fill the tub! So what's the point of the tub??? Staff was rude and really did not bother about guests. We stayed in Elgin in Gangtok and Pelling and expected much more since we saw better (if not the best) service standards and were extremely disappointed. The service was exceptionally slow. Food is terrible, breakfast spread poor. The table linen had stains and was not changed for each meal I guess. Overall an extremely disappointing stay and the lowest point of our trip wrt to hospitality. Spa is useless, the massage felt exhausting rather than relaxing and when we gave this feedback to reception, their response was "OK". Like just okay??? Really? Do you guys even care about making the hotel experience comfortable for your guests? At least bother to take the feedback and respond appropriately!! Havent seen such arrogant, apathetic and inefficient staff in any of the hotels I have ever visited. It's a complete waste of money and won't visit again!!
