We woke up to a White Christmas morning that was uncomfortably cold. Due to the weather as well as Electric Heating System being switched off by the Management to avoid some accident. Its a routine to use the heating from 6 pm to 10 pm irrespective of the weather. We were a large group of 20 with small kids as well. The Management must shed its " Cost Savings" attitude and be warmer to guests .
After a 20 minute walk to reach Eagles Nest one was not disappointed. Spacious room with balcony overlooking the mountains. Good choice of food in a cosy environment with open fires & hot water bottles in our bed.
Thoroughly recommend the water fall walk, but you do need walking boots.
We are writing a review as we were quite disappointed with our visit. We stayed two nights (though we originally planned to stay for 3) in the moonlight suite. We were really looking fwd to our stay given that the hotel sits amidst lovely deodar forest, bit away from the main town. However despite the lovely location (rating 5), the abject lack of cleanliness (rating 2) and poor service (rating 1) put us off. The rooms were (and looked) dirty - with dust piled up along the beams, door frames, under the bed/futon, dead insects along the windows and skylights etc. The linen (towels, bed cover, bathrobes) were all either stained or musty and also looked very worn. The cups came with tea stains, the silverware was also dirty. The TV room had a mouse.
Service was whimsical and we often felt unwelcome sometimes. The hotel charged us rs 14 k per day for all inclusive meals, snacks, beverages etc. However the fare was very poor - all meals except the last (where we asked specifically) were made without any starter or dessert. We were the only guests and meals were being cooked only for us. When we asked about snacks Vicky, the cook, told us we could get only fries or pakoras. Hence, we never had any snacks. Vicky made us feel that he was doing us a favour by showing irritation or attitude whenever we placed an order.
All these are easily fixable issues and we hope that they will be rectified since the place really is lovely, with pretty walks to the river, a waterfall etc.
Special thanks to Sanjeev Ajit and Vicky and of course Sapu and the rest of the staff for the comfortable stay. Thank you Bo and Sheila!
What views from the rooms! Had the best time with the best views, food, yoga and an absolute hidden gem in the mountains. It's a special place for me.
We had organic food, spring water, yummy croissants, superb jams, nettle soup, amazing desserts, unlimited ginger lemon honey tea and lovely staff especially Sanjeev! He makes things special. Hot water bottles delivered, refills of anything all with a smile.
We went up to Triund with the guides and also to the waterfalls and Magic view and it was mind blowing.
This time the wifi worked better and it was good and bad:)
Only con- rooms need to be more clean. Housekeeping not the best. Musty quilts, bathrooms were not cleaned and general dirt all over. Small con. Really can be overlooked but it is feedback.
Thanks once again to all! It was such a glorious experience
Lots of love, can't wait to be back soon
We were 2 families (9people)
An old charming guest house in the hills above Mcleodganj.
Location - 5*, up in the hills and only accessible by hiking the last 1km upto the hotel. Views spectacular, peaceful.
Quality of rooms - 2* the rooms were classic old style, but considering the amount of staff they had the cleanliness needs definite improvement.
Service- 5* the owners and staff were friendly and helpful. We had amazing guides during the hikes, which made the experience so much more fun for the kids and us.
Food - 3* all inclusive vegetarian the food on the first evening was really nice, the second night not so. The breakfast was nice and considering everything had to be carried up the mountain it was good. I could expect that with the amazing climate and location they should be trying to grow more in their surroundings!
Recommendation for people staying - bring your own wine/champagne, good hiking shoes & warm clothes.
Overall a very enjoyable stay, thanks.
