A superb experience A superb experience

What a fabulous time we had at this wonderful palace hotel. The location, staff , food and rooms are absolutely first class. The town itself of Dungarpur- was such a surprise - spotlessly clean and a pleasure to walk through. The Juna Mahal - a hidden gem with each room providing a feast for the eyes! I must make a special mention again of the wonderful courteous staff..from the manager to the restaurant staff each seemed entwined in the life of the family and the building and as a guest one was enveloped in a sense of history and belonging. Cannot recommend this enough.

Hidden Gem!! Hidden Gem!!

Its truly an oasis of serenity and calmness. You are treated like a royal guest and yet your privacy is never breached. A property about which surprisingly very few people have heard. Its an excellent property where you stay in the same place as the royal family. The food prepared is extremely delicious and the staff here feels like a family, taking care of your every need. There are a lot of activities like tennis, table tennis, swimming, etc. The highlight is the dinner. I would not like to reveal much as it would act as spoiler. Its for the guests to experience. A complete royal 5 star experience where the stress is on hospitality and not on grandeur, thankfully.

Enchanting Oasis Enchanting Oasis

To echo a previous reviewer, I found the Udai Bilas Palace enchanting. Do not expect it to be like the Ritz just because it is called a Palace. This is still the home of the Maharajah of Dungarpur and his family so it is more like being a guest at a house party. No phone TV or room service - but so much else. Its the perfect place to relax for anyone needing some down time. Be warned that it is very quiet and you may well be the only guests there and there is not a great deal to do in the area - however the staff are friendly and helpful and the setting by the lakeside is beautiful. It is also ridiculously inexpensive. My little room with balcony overlooking the pool was extremely quaint and like walking into a BBC set from 'Jewel in the Crown' . Rooms are furnished with generations of family furniture and as you wander around, it often feels as though the clock has stopped somewhere around 1930. My bed was too firm however - some newer and more comfortable replacements might be a good idea.. My bathroom was bigger than my bedroom and spotless. We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the bar which is part of the car museum and Dinner was served in a beautiful setting in the courtyard dining room - disappointing curries but delicious desserts. The breakfast room was like walking into somewhere in the Scottish highlands - walls covered in stuffed trophies. We were very sad not to have longer in this unique and beautiful spot and very much enjoyed our stay. Do ask them to arrange a visit to the Old Palace nearby. It is now disused but has some stunning interiors. Well worth seeing but has to be arranged through the hotel.

Stayed here with my family in three adjacent rooms. Each room is unique with its own character. Beds are "Indian" style and thus quite firm. Shower is in a claw foot tub and a little awkward, so consider a luxurious bath and better enjoy the space. That's what it's built for! Meals were top notch and served in a royal courtyard. You really can't beat the experience anywhere on Earth I would imagine. It was too chilly to swim in early January, but we thoroughly enjoyed sunning ourselves, sipping on beers and munching on delicious snacks poolside. The on site museum is small, but very well done, rivaling those in the United States and certainly a notch above those we'd seen in other cities in India. The car museum and bar are similarly small, but so well done and so well kept that the quality exceeds the quantity you might find in other car museums elsewhere. Clearly the caretakers of this property take great pride in upkeep. In fact, the property is so beautiful and so large, we chose to skip all other day trips and spend our entire time relaxing on site. Maybe we missed out on the local temples and palaces, but we don't regret it. We were treated so well that we just didn't want to leave. Most of our conversations revolved around thinking up ways we could extend our trip to another night or indefinitely! If you are anywhere near this part of India, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit. Just please consider at least a two night stay or you may find yourself wishing you had!

A Good Week End Getaway...! A Good Week End Getaway...!

It is quiet place on the lake, with a blend of Rajasthani Architecture and Colonial Interiors. The service is excellent and the food is just awesome. You can relax by the pool and have a great time watching the vintage car collection and a nice museum displaying the collection of the Royal Family of Dungarpur.
